MMS size limit on unlocked phones

Anxiovert

Something really odd is happening to me. I'm trying to send a picture from an unlocked phone, but right after I try to send it my phone will say that's too large, and it must be resized. NOW, whenever I try to send that same picture (I bluetoothed it) from my Cingular branded w810, it will go thru without any problems! Any work around this issue?

is there a way to change the setting on the phone?

i know at&t upped the mms limit to accommodate 2 meg cameras but i heard they put a filter to check that it's coming a recognized imei to prevent people using mms for things they really don't want them to use it for.

Hmmm, that could be the problem. I guess I'll call them to update the IMEI. Hopefully this fixes it.

i couldn't find anything concrete, but here it is from at&t.

-Our network currently supports 600KB - to support those devices with 2MP cameras. MMS kilobyte size restrictions vary based on specific device limitations.

That nakes sense since ATT sees my phone as an N75 rather then the N82/ Hmmmm. Upon a second look there is a 600kb limit.

I updated the IMEI number with AT&T and still, I'm not able to send pictures without the phone asking me to reduce them because they're too large. I checked and there are no setting on my phone that I could change to make this work. Could it be the SIM card? (old)

If you're talking about the freedom to put any SIM card in my phone. YES, there're a lot of things to love about it.
Have you tried getting an unlock code from the new AT&T? They ask for the most ridiculous info. So ridiculous, that I decided to only buy unlocked phones from now on! As a frequent overseas traveler I still appreciate GSM's flexibility any day.

Great for you but at least my carrier can shrink a photo to the size needed to send. just the little flexibility you get from CDMA. I know it doesn't compare to the SIM card but since I don't travel were I need my phone I will take the thing I use more and thats photo messaging.

Oh no, you misunderstood me. My phone reduces the pics too (just like you say you can on CDMA) it's just that I wish I could send the same size pics I can send on my branded W810i, that's all.

I am just messing with you. I don't know if it sends the full 2.0 or reduces them automatically it just sends it.

I think the issue is with the phone. I get a message that says RECIPIENT may not be able to receive an image this size. I send anyway and the phone reduces the image to a still large for MMS transfer 300kb and it is sent.

The other option is to send the file as an attachement if you want the receiver to have the full resolution. I kinda like that feature (having a 5MP camera) Normally I will send an MMS for a quick pic to someone, I get the warning and I have the choice of sending it as a large file or an MMS.

I don't want to be sending 5MP pics to another's phone via MMS. The system won't allow files that large anyway. All my pics get reduced to the 300kb limit should I decide to send a 5mp pic via MMS. Then I get the warning the...

IM guessing you are not a Verizon customer then!!!

Probably Alltel. We have them here as well. They are much betteer than Verizon as far as features and capability goes as is Sprint another CDMA Carrier.

So you guys dont get crippled phones and Carrier GUI? Full BT implimentation.....

SO the only thing you really cannot do is switch phones and contact info on the fly. Not bad.

Now if they could get some better phones for CDMA Alltel and Sprint could join up and kick some VErizon Ass.

According to my computer that my phone is connected to know through blue tooth using data from my phone this is what my phone has:
AV audio source
dial up networking (DUN)
Object Push (OBEX)
File Transfer (OBEX)
Serial Port

I can connect and see it as a drive through bluetooth or a usb cable.

Contact info can be backed up through a over the air service and transfered or restored in a few seconds over the air.
The only thing is the phone change. That takes a phone call but not even a issue with me as I don't need more then one phone.

Interesting. Verizon is the only CDMA Carrier that locks up their phone's features. With the good coverage and reliability why wouldn't more people ...

What kind of phone? I have an unbranded unlocked phone and have no issues. I never even called ATT with the IMEI. The N82 shows up as an N75 on the ATT site. LOL

Its not the SIM card.

What would that be? I never registered my IEMI with ATT and have had no issues unless the 300kb limit via MMS is the "issue" . I never sent MMS pics much. The phone will reduce the pic. Hmmm perhaps I should give ATT a call tomorrow with my IMEI and see what happens.
