I hear cingular is rolling out new phones that wil support UTMS and be able to have internet speeds of 3g. I was wondering i have a motorola v551 and was wondering if this phone is UTMS compatiable? ALso when cingular rolls out 3g if my phone will be able to use these two features or if i will have to get a new phone?

None that are currently available... No UMTS/HSDPA handsets have been released yet.

I believe the post was about what phones Cingular offers that are UMTS/HSDPA compatible. 🙄

In regards to whats coming for the UMTS network that Cingular is currently testing in Atlanta...we have not seen any UMTS/HSDPA phones released, but they are likely well on their way in development and probably on the production line this summer. The fourth quarter this year will be the new network launch...can't wait.

UMTS is old news overseas. There are many, many UMTS compatible phones on the market already, just not being sold here in the states because they are useless here, for the most part.

Thank you for that tidbit of information. Yes, every other market worldwide is ahead of the US market. Yes, we are all aware of that. Thank you for reminding us. 🙄

Tell me... Does Cingular sell these phones? Can you go into a Cingular owned store, through telesales, or on cingular.com and purchase these phones?

v551 is not UMTS/HSDPA capable... and when UMTS/HSDPA rolls out you would need a new UMTS/HSDPA capable handset...
