1) The TDMA and/or analog network is scheduled to be shut off on Feb 18 or 19. All TDMA and/or analog customers need to upgrade by then or they will lose service. Correct?
2) I am an old AT&T Wireless/Legacy Blue customer with a GSM phone. Will old Legacy Blue customers with GSM phones be affected?
...
you're right. gsm will not be affected. only analog and tdma.
...
are you sure? we were told by our RAE that the GSM was going too. do you have any clarification?
...
The Legacy Blue and Cingular networks are integrated. There's no shutting down of GSM. If your account gets shut down, that's a separate thing to the TDMA shutdown.
...
Your RAE is an idiot. GSM will shut down. Not in this decade. And entirely, probably not the next either.
...
i am positive. old at&t wireless refered to TDMA as 'Digital' and referred to GSM as just GSM. TDMA is being shut down as well as analog becasue they share the same network. that's probably what your rae was talking about.
...
that's what I asked him, but he said that the ATT Wireless GSM plans were expiring as well. The GSM customers either upgrade or their done. That is what we were told. If they are just shutting down the TDMA accounts we are going to have bluehairs out the yinyang for a day or two.

I have said this before and I will repeat: It has been 4 years since Cingular bought AT&T Wireless. The customers have had more than enough time to migrate or go elsewhere. I do not know if they are going to cancel the AT&T Wireless Legacy GSM accounts, but I think they should and February 18th is as good a date as any.
...
that's stupid. there would be NO reason to cancel a gsm customer. they all use one network now. at&t may not make as much money on those older blue accounts but they are still profitable and they still add to our quarterly statement... i think they should get rid of all employess that once worked for a legacy company then switched to another company that we took over and february 18th sounds like a good date.
...
HA! How do you know that the Legacy AT&T GSM customers are profitable? I was told a year ago that the entire Legacy AT&T customers were costing Cingular/AT&T. I was also told that the company was going to do away with these plans and customers if they did not migrate by the end of 2007. Hasn't happened yet, but 2/18 is close. I understand that Legacy AT&T customers add to the quarterly numbers, but how much? How many legacy AT&T customers are there? Whatever the number, that is sure to go down after 2/18. Would it still be profitable then?
Wow! I came off as a jerk there. I am naming myself @$$clown of the day. Sorry.
...
if they shut down legacy att cutomers, then are they shutting down cingular cutomers too since they use same gsm network. there is no difference between the two. same gsm network/towers.
...
I really don't care what they do, I just don't want crabby GSM ATT Wireless customers who want the world but won't get with the times. Trust me, I'd keep that awesome $99 unlimited everything plan in a heartbeat, but we don't live in a world were everything is fair. I know that the plans are more expensive then what ATT Wireless was offering but gas is now $3 something a gallon when it used to be under a $1.50. Things change and inflation causes prices to rise. Think its bad now, wait till next year after the election.

As far as Unlimited Plans go, I know that AT&T has started to send CellOne customers on the Statewide ($55) and Nationwide ($99) Unlimited plans letters. The letters basically say that the plan is hurting the company (A.K.A. is no longer profitable) and if they go over a specified amount of minutes, they will have their service terminated. Wow, huh? AT&T is not going to waste another 4 years trying to get these customers to switch. CellOne is a much smaller company than AT&T Wireless was, but Cingular/AT&T learned their lesson with AT&T Wireless.
On the upside, AT&T will offer these CellOne customers the option to migrate and the ETF fee is waived if they are terminated. And yes, that is legal. T&C states that the company can terminate se...
