I am current ATT customer and called Cingular Telesales to place an order for a 2nd line this monday. I was asked all my personal information -- in effect opening up a new account at Cingular -- with a number port for my primary line. I picked a couple of phones. All good.

Tuesday, I called in with a question about my order and it cannot be found!!! I am told there is no record of it in the system anywhere. I called a couple of days later and learned the same thing. Nothing in the system!

So I placed a 2nd order -- again giving all my personal info and picking two phones etc. Today, I learned that my 2nd order is being shipped via Fedex.

Questions: Anyone have any idea what might have happened to my 1st order? Is it likel...

Please tell me that you are "migrating" your ATT line and you didn't activate a new line of service with Cingular for the existing account.

Sounds confusing but the difference is because you are already a customer of Cingular/ATT with your existing line, you can't get the same discount for equipment as a new Cingular customer. Atleast not for the existing line. You would have to first migrate your existing line then activate a new line of service on the migrated account. If you did start a new line and did not migrate, unfortunately you will have to return the equiptment because you can't "port" into Cingular from ATT. If you did you will have to pay a Early Termination Fee w/ ATT if you were under contract.

I tried like hell to accom...

Thanks for the response. I believe I migrated, since I was responding to an offer I received in the mail directed to existing ATT customers from Cingular with a phone number and offer code for adding a 2nd line of service.

But I continue to be concerned about my 1st order. Since so much personal info has to be handed over for cell phone service -- what is the likelihood that someone wrote down my info and actually didn't setup an order for my account?

Or if as you suggested that my order "failed for some reason". What are some common reasons for orders to fail out? Do you have ideas as to why Cingular reps couldn't find the order? I had them search under my SSN and my last name. Do failed orders end up in some other section or ...

Your order was probably lost because our port system went down for a day or two around that time (at least in the Dallas area). We could not migrate nor port anyone. It's also a good thing it wasn't completed, since a good portion of our migrations failed around that time. Their accounts were opened on Cingular, but the lines were never requested from SOA and NPAC. Our Port Center had to process a new SP create through SOA to resolve the issues. 😁 I hope those acronyms confused you. They made no sense to me, but it was sent to us on the internal email.
