Here's a Crazy-Whack-Funky idea!
I don't lie to customers... It's not worth having to deal with the crap that comes later to lie.
Actually, I never tell them any prices. I tell them to call and the person on the phone will explain the process and options available to them.
EVER.
I also love explaining that warranty sends out refurbished phones. Always. Even IF an agent at the store said they could get a brand new phone.
And that physical damage, whether it has anything to do with the issue or not, will void the warranty. And yes, I have had agents at the store argue with me about that.
I've even had a store agent tell a customer that we'd replace a lost phone "because it was malfunctioning before it got lost."
