If i buy an iphone off of,say, ebay, could i just insert my card in and be on my way if it was unlocked? ๐คจ Thanks!
Yep..But why would you want an iPhone and pay $500 for it. There are better phones out there for the kind of bread they are charging for unlocked iPhones.
read some threads in Howards Forums on those phones and those who sold their iphones to get them. IF you still want the iPhone buy it.
THe Nokias have REAL GPS (which means you have the option og using Garmin ot Tom Tom software to access the ACTUAL GPS sattilite without using data or phone towers)
They havbe 5 MP cameras (The N82 even has a powerful xenon flash)
They have MMS capability (Iphone does not)
They have VGA 30FPS video. Thats HUGE for a phone
They have STEREO BT headphone for music listening (iphone does not)
THEy have the ability to add memory up to 32 GB if and when those cards become available
They have INTERCHANGABLE batteries
They are UNLOCKED and UNbranded NATIVELY. NOt ...

The original question asks if the guys previous sim card would work in an unlocked iphone. So, NO it is not relevant to blast the iphone and list off features of a Nokia phone.
Thats right and I answered his question and offered an alternative that he may thank me for later. He asked what was better about the N series. I listed a ton of things that are better then buying a hacked iPhone for the same money.
If he has any sense at all he will now have enough information to make an "informed" choice, Unlike you who probably stood in line a half a day to buy a $600 "Half a phone" that dropped 1/3rd in price a few weeks later...
But hey you had your 5 minutes of "cool" so it's all good....

With that kind of financial "logic" you will be working till you are 85 years old....
You spent $400 for the iphone. Period. You cannot discount what you paid for the phone you sold for $300.....
Amazing.
You are by far one of the most one sided backwards thinking forum loiterers phonescoop has ever seen. Anything that isn't your opinion is somehow insane and everything about Nokia is biblical in your mind. I realize you are childish need to "get a rise out of people" but I still don't like you.

It is amazing that I sold a phone I had used for 6 months, taken apart and resold. You must not know anything about accounting, real value and depreciation otherwise you wouldn't say something that stupid. It is not the same.

And I care because?
Nokia has the best phone with the most features for any amount of money. Show me another that comes close. You can't. Case closed.
And you H...

I GOT $300 via paypal, therefore it was offset against my $400 I paid for the phone. Simple accounting. Call it what you want, I mean I am an actual accountant so I think my view is pretty solid.

You've got to love statements of finality from some random knucklehead. Oh, case closed? OK I will just accept that. Oh it's fact? OK I believe you.

You are clueless. You paid $400 for an iPhad. and claim it only really cost you $100 because
you sold another phone for $300.
It's no wonder so many people are in debt up to their eyeballs with financial logic like that.

OK...OK...I thought with the iphone it is a bi*ch to try and just throw your sim card in and it will start working? One of our customers came in and said that they bought a Iphone off ebay. He called customer service and he said that he would have to get a new sim card and when he activates it, he of course had to activate it through Itunes and enter in the new sim card and go on from there? Now is that wrong? ๐
Welcome to APPLE CONTROL.....
And by the way an AT&T salesman who owns the iphone offered to buy my N95!

Indeed, I did my homework before plopping down my $480 for a cell phone. LOL Spent a couple months on Howards and other sites. Being a Sony fan I was initially looking for a super SE. But even the W960 is nowhere near the N series in features.
The iphone is not worth more than $250 to me. Even that would be hard for me to warm up to at that price. I am too used having everything (except 3G). It was a tough decision to give up 3G but I don't use much data and the GPS does not "have" to be data based. The GPS and the Photo/Video features were the endgame for me.
I did not ...

So I'm curious, what are the reasons you chose the N82 over the N95? Also, I'm curious. How can GPS be used w/o data? Because when I click on Find Near by restaurants my phone does go online to fetch the data. By the way ATT's 3G does work on my N95-3, the highest speed I've ever gotten is 1.5mbps.
Xenon flash, faster photos. lens cover
I wanted the bar format so I can mount it in my car and on the bike and use the keyboard without having to open the phone. Lees moving parts the better.
I bought the phone WITH the Garmin XT package which uses the GPS chip in the phone and has VOICE directions. Nokias voice directions cost $9.99 a month. Plus I can set the phone to use the SAtilites onl...

I like the bigger screen on the N95.

What's so great about xenon flash??? LED is pretty damn bright, bright enough to take a picture in the complete dark.

The Xenon is the same flash you find on stand alone cameras. The flash will fill a room or take out shadows outdoors at 10 feet. I really wanted a complete camera on all levels. It takes pictures I am more than satisfied with night and day indoors and out.
I gave up the bigger screen for the form factor. I also did not want to be limited to 8Gb. I have 20 Gig worth of music alone. Would be nice to put a 32 GB card in there, I would be able to carry all my computer docs, Music, Photos with me.
Did you hear about the N96? It's going to have 16GB's of internal memory PLUS a memory card slot that can handle up to 16GB microsd cards. It's also going to have a 2nd flash that is being called a video light. It's suppose to be coming out in the 3rd qtr.

Wow! Boy are you a multimedia junkie! I'm happy with the 4gb card I have in my N95, I have 586 songs and over 1400 pictures. 4 gigs is good for me. I'm also very happy with the LED flash on my N95, and happy with it's night picture capabilities.

Yeah I have. Mobile City has it for $799.

Don't know what'll happen at the end of '09 though as to how Nokia intends on advancing the N Series.
I look forward to finding out the future of the best of what Nokia developes.
I had a t637 for three years! I don't spend this kind of bread on a phone for only a year and a half use.
I am sure it will be relevant a long time. I will buy my next phone for the LTE network. Unless my wife really wants this one. Shes not into the phones at all.
So in all reality. When do you think AT&T will launch LTE? I'm guessing no sooner than Spring/Summer of 2010.
Gosh I am so, so curious what the wireless industry will be like in Summer 2010.

Yeah you've got a point, our phones are so, so advanced, they should be good til the launch of LTE.

IM guessing 3 years. By that time Nokia should have some LTE phones worth paying over $500 for with the new technology.
My phone will be the last
"3G" GSM phone I will probably buy. (though it doesn't have US 3G"
Here's a surprise though before I got my spare batteries, I kept 3G off, to save battery power, and I did a dandwidth test using EDGE and I got a test result as fast as 700kbps! Not bad at all for EDGE!
I'm also looking forward to higher rez displays and much, much better batteries.

EXACTLY.. and Thats why I chose to go withhout 3G. Its always looking for a signal and draining the battery. I found edge to be fine for those times when WiFi is not available.
I tried the wifes 6126 3G against another edge phone I had and the speed differance, although marked was not a concern.
Sigma1570 said:
6126 isn't 3g. True 3g is about 8 times faster than edge its awesome
Well that explains it. LOL
Yes it is markedly faster. If the N82 came with it I would not complain. But I really don't need it as My data use consists of Gmail push and minor browsing. I always have acces to the net on land based machines so I really don't use the phone for data much.
