What Cingular's policy on...

broken phones that are still under manufacturer's warranty? Right now I have AT&T (going on 4 years now) and will probably migrate to an Orange plan once the S710a comes out. Now I never had experience with a malfunctioning phone, but from my experience on the AT&T forum, it seemed like their policy was that if a phone broke after 30 days but within the 1 year manufacturer warranty, you had to send it back to the manufacturer yourself; paying for shipping and going (possibly) weeks without a phone.

I can't tell you how many times I heard someone say "it's not AT&T's problem, it's a [whoever] phone. Why should AT&T replace it." To me that argument is invalid once the carrier brands, or modifies the phone in any way.

Cingular offers a thirty day in-store exchange from the place of purchase, and a one year mail in warranty under the manufacturers warranty. It's the same, however Cingular takes care of the mailing for you. After you call our exchange by mail department, they will mail you the same model from stock and instruct you to mail in your original handset once you receive your replacement phone. They provide a prepaid shipping label, and even tape for the box, and give you two weeks for the return.
