First encounter with cingular

I was in the mall during my day off picking up a few items when i walked by a Cingular kiosk (a corporate location.) My wife and I have been talking about moving to an area where my company doesn't offer service so I thought I would ask a question about employment to one of the workers. I went up to the kiosk and introduced myself. The lady there gave me a worse look then any upset customer has ever given me. I could tell she was thinking "what the hell do you want," or something along those lines. I explained my situation and asked if she could tell me what the starting pay was for a Cingular sales rep. She very snottingly replied "none of us would ever give you that information." I apologised and went my own way.

I can understand...

😲 I am a little shocked at the responce you got from that rep. You should have asked to speak to her manager. I am a csr for the company and almost always report to my superior when a fellow coworker treats our customers like that. As if our jobs weren't hard enough!

Well, in all honesty when it comes to employment, everyone's experience is going to differ. I currently work for T-Mobile, and if asked would shower praise on how I've been treated. Prior to my employment at T-Mobile I worked for cingular. I can honestly say they made me hate my job to the point I'd rather eat raw eggs and cod liver oil to make myself sick enough to be able to call out-just to give me an excuse not to come in. (not literally).

However, I was in a much different environment. I was in sales with cingular where as I'm in customer service with T-Mobile. Perhaps a lot to do with it had to be with my personal incompatibility with the type of work I was doing. I'd never been a sales person, and I never want to be again- I hate...

I would not judge the company as a whole by this person's behavior. I am an employee and happen to love my job. I think the lowest point of my job is when it is slow, but I can still find things to keep me busy. I have had no previous experience in this industry, but it is a cutthroat kind of business. The good side is there are plenty of customers to go around and everybody gets at least a bite of the pie.
I have found that Cingular tends to support their employees and though they haven't weeded out the "bad" employees yet, their time is limited....
All in all Cingular has been pretty good to me, I get paid well and my benefits for myself and family are like no other..

😁 Must agree. The beifits are spactacular from day one, and the pay isn't bad. As a rep I have to say I get the most complaints by customers that have come from mall kiosks. I would say avoid them at all costs and seek a company owned store for sure. As for being rude to customers... I never am no matter what my mood is. by doing that you create a negative impact for your-self as a rep. I love my job. and I like helping customers. But much of my time is spent convincing customers that what they experieneced by a few is not the attitude of the rest of us. Stick with it, there are some great reps out there.

The cellular company i work for also has awesome benefits, which is my greatest concern. I know not to judge a company by one employee, but she was just so damn rude! Anyways thanks for the input! By the way, anyone know how service is in the Fort Collins, Co area? Thanks!

I second the emotion on the company stores. I cannot stand it when we get these poor people in here that have been tossed back and forth by an "in the mall kiosk". Not to offend ANYBODY in ANYWAY, but sometimes you can figure out how scandelous(?) people really are..

I concur, there are several kiosks like that in the mall that I work at. Those places give a lot of people trouble.

The sad thing for those of us who work at company stores end up cleaning up the mess when the customer has already had a bad experience. It just makes it harder for everybody.

Im not sure how Cingular exactly works out. Im a former At&t Wireless employee. I know for customer service they ususally started out at about 11.00 per hour and 10% night differencial. In addition you would have extra incentives. We would also get a free phone with unlimited service, sms message, mMode, ect. Bennifits are free with flexible spending. 3 floating holidays a year. double time and a half for holidays. Also ran a unlimited overtime for a while paying time and a half plus a 8.00 incentive. At&t was a great place to work. However Cingular is very different. Not saying it is a bad place to work, however not sure if i like all the new policies.
