Texting phones, ones where you don't have to sign up for a data or Blackberry plan.
Any coming soon?

You can text on any phone. You do not have to sign up for a data plan with a device - but what features you get impact the equipment price. At present, you can substitute the Unlimited Message plan for the data plan to get the discounts (at least in Business Markets Group - don't know COR)

I think he means phones with a full qwerty. As for which phone that would be I don't know.
...
Yes, like the LG Rumor/Scoop with Sprint/Alltel, or the LG enV or Voyager on Verizon. All the QWERTY keyboard phones look like PDA/Smartphones and would require a PDA or Blackberry package for data.
...
Right, but what was said is that you don't need to get the PDA package for the rebate on those phones. It has since been changed to qualify with a texting plan of $20 or higher on a rate plan of $39.99 or higher. READ THE SMALL PRINT

read the small print??? nah. it's for the employees to read and then relate to the customer....(jk yo, jk.)

With my BB Curve, I only need a texting plan, not a BB data plan?
...
Well, when I got the BB Curve in late Feb 08, I was told the BB data package was mandatory, and not just for the rebate. Sounds like this has changed.
...
Nextel is the only company that requires that you get the BB package once a BB is registered on your account. they add it even if you don't. Your sales person was trying to optimize his sales commission by telling you that. Sorry you didn't look into this before shopping for a phone device. If your interested I have a few bridges you might be interested in.

this isn't true: you NEED a BB plan with
Alltel
Sprint
Verizon
AT&T
the only company that doesn't care is T-Mobile. It has something to do with the way the BB is set up. It checks the internet so often that a data plan is required in order to have one. I don't know if T-Mobile's BB's are different, or if T-Mobile doesn't care about internet. They do have the cheapest data plans out of every company.

Dude you can have a blackberry without the plan. You just won't have access to the full features of the device, but there are a lot of people that just like the full keyboard for texting, thusly they adjusted the required packages to qualify for the rebate.
...
nevermind. I'm not going to argue with you.

i thought you were done - go be wrong about sh*t elsewhere

so, captain smart guy, you're telling me I can get a blackberry on any network without any data plan? only Nextel requires a data plan? So, does Sprint or Verizon? If I call them up and tell them I already have a blackberry, I can activate it without getting a data plan? Let's just make sure this is what you're stating...
...
Ok so I work for VZW... Data plans are REQUIRED to have a blackberry phone on the network. The RIM server is always connecting to the server, so if there is no data package, the customer will get a HUGE plan... thats how blackberry works... just throwing my 2 cents in
...
a huge bill that is... not a huge plan
