Original ATTWireless Unlimited GSM Plan vs Current ATT Unlimited
Hello,
I am still on the original (2002, i think) ATT Wireless GSM Unlimited Charter Plan --- there was never a reason to change! However, ATT is now offering a new Unlimited Voice Plan, and it seems as if this plan is an equivalent plan, so there may still not be any reason to change or "upgrade".
Does any one have any related experiences (recently upgraded from the original to the new unlimited plan) or rationale for doing so?
Thank you in advance!
...
One reason to upgrade would be to get a new phone. The $99 plan that's out now is identical to your current charter plan.
I'm not really sure what you're asking, but I hope this covered it - if not, let me know.
...
Yes, you've covered it. It seems that they're offering a couple decent phones, but the better phones would be unlocked and obtained elsewhere.
For me to "upgrade" my use of the phone, I would need internet access, which means I'd need to upgrade my voice plan as ATT won't add a data plan to the original charter plan.
...
In our market they are letting all charter plan members know that they either move to the new plan or they will be let go. They had to have a comparable plan to be legally able to do that.
...
They do not need a comparable plan to 'legally' do that. who gave you that load of poop?
The right business decision would be to offer something comparable, but AT&T can cancel or change your service at any time as long as they provide you one billing cycle notice.
and before the rest of slappies start sprouting off- this is the same with any carrier.

part of the merger between ATT wireless and Cingular stated that they could get rid of customers only when comparable plans were offered. i lived in CA when Cingular first merged with ATT and all the ticked off customers who were disconnected because Cingular didn't want to honor the plans. a lawsuit was filed and what i stated above was to save new ATT from another lawsuit.
...
What about all of the other, old AT&T Wireless (Legacy Blue) customers? Will they ever be forced to upgrade or canceled?
...
only if they want something new. new phone, new plan, new features. if they keep their plan the way it is, no. also, they may eventually not get company discounts.
