Cingular Discount Question

I have a question about a military discount on my wireless phone. It seems it might be more productive to ask my question here than waste 15 minutes waiting for Cingular support (which, btw, blows most of the time...besides having to wait an eternity, often the reps are useless, or they tell me I called the wrong place and make me wait another 20 minutes)

Anyway, support hating rant over, the organization i work for has a site contract with ATT, where we could get something like a 15% discount on ATT plans. I started working for them after the merger, and I have a Cingular plan. Since they are the same company, am I eligible for this discount? I tried going in store, and they told me since I have an existing plan, I would have to call tech support. I got a number for the key department (or something like that), but I have not yet called that number yet. So before I do, I was curious if the ATT discount would be applicable to my Cingular plan now... Thanks for any guidance here.

Military and government discounts must be submitted at a local retail store. You have to show your military ID and have the sales rep send in an RWOF form.

So there is a discount available for me then, correct?

So how come when I went to 2 different stores in San Diego (one ATT, one Cingular), they both told me they couldn't do anything because it was a pre-existing plan? I was wondering why the stores told me to call in, because I figured that they would need my ID to give me the discount...

Also, it's necessary to visit a direct store right (as opposed to one owned by a contractor or other third party)? I visited one that I guess wasn't a cingular direct store, and they well...told me to go to a cingular direct store.

i dont know what they mean by pre-existing plan, but from the sheet i'm looking at right now, if your're on a plan $39.99 or higher, you can get a 7% discount off monthly service. yes, you would need to go to an "orange" direct retail store.

"Offering Instructions
AWS/PARTNER AFFFILIATE ONLY 7% MRC DISCOUNT
PROMOTIONS ON RATE PLANS 39.99 AND ABOVE.
GSM OK-- "

I'm on a 49.99 plan, 1000 anytime minutes with rollover (it was a promotion for a few months or so)...

by pre-existing, I mean that I am currently on the plan. The people at the store told me that they (they being the store rep) could only apply the discount if I signed up for a new plan there...

*sigh* .. no, that's incorrect. i dont know why they are telling you that. i actually showed your post to a couple of people here, and they did verify that's not the case. we just need proof you're part of the military or gov't employee.

bah, curse the impotent fools working in your organization! the discount will be offset by money spent on gas and time and effort 😛

At least....at least you guys have decent coverage everywhere I am. make sure that stays the same, lest there is nothing good to report about Cingular. oh rollover is cool too.

Also, i'll bring your post along with me next time I visit a store. I believe one of my badges should suffice for proof that I'm a gov't employee. Thanks for your help!
