Does AT&T charge an upgrade fee?

We were talking about this in my store today, but nobody had a definitive answer. Does AT&T charge a standard fee when its customers upgrade? I'm not trying to start a flame war between fanboys, just want a yes or no answer...

$18 and usually you just have to be at or near the end of your agreement with a good payment history to have it waived if you do a new 2 year agreement. I have not seen a customer with a fee in a while.

Both. It is a system thing. I don't think it matters the channel.

In our market you must average $80 per line per month to have the fee waived. Customer service will sometimes waive it but our RAE says until more people in our market get data and other services its gonna be there. Just rotate the main line to get the fee waived will work as well.

Don't rotate the primary... you are going to screw up customer's bills and it's more trouble than it's worth.

You can also get yourself fired by doing that, it's against policy.

Rotating the primary will not change the bottom line of the bill, but will create prorated charges for the lines involved, which most of the time will confuse a customer if they look at it.

the $80 ARPU policy was tweaked, so it does not always work anymore - the formula used to determine early upgrade eligibility is a bit more complex. plus, the line had to average that ARPU for 3 months anyhow, so that wouldn't help you on that given day.

lastly, this is against the company code of business conduct to circumvent any system. for all anyone knows you could be ...

I had to switch mine for other problems I was having with a COR rep that was flipping features without asking on my account. i've only done it once for a customer who has asked to have the primary changed and it changed the upgrade. i am sure my RAE needs more training though.

yea not to mention the policy, but the customer will also sometimes be charged an activation fee which is more than the upgrade fee

May depend on the client's agreement too - most global and governmental FAN's have upgrade fees waived.

I don't know about MOST customers... you need to have a certain MRC, region dependent.

If your lines have lots of data attached they will get waived upgrade fees and possibly extra money off a phone if they go into a COR location.

Thats one of the reasons I stopped an upgrade for a phone for the wife and instead bought on on Ebay for her.

We have been month to month and since I just paid $800 for two phones (N82 and N95-3) And she did not want the N82. (Sold it back on Ebay LOL) and wanted the 6126 I had run over.....

I decided the hell with it I will just sign a contract sine Im keeping my GSM Nokia anyway and get her a phone.

Well first of all I HAD to get TWO phones. Then had to pay TWO "upgrade fees" The total cost would have been nearly $100. So I just bought her another 6126 for $50 on Ebay and will remain month to month.

Since we are on the $59 family plan and only one phone with $15 UK Media Net we do not spend enough to have the fee waived. So...

Do some research. HTC sells ATT service here. Your bill comes from HTC not ATT. You have to go to Georgetown to get ATT servie Billed by ATT.

Not the Phone maker. Horry Telephone Co-operative. They also sell cable TV and landline service.

ANd yes if I go online and upgrade they will force me to upgrade BOTH phones on the Fak\nily plan. ITs simply not worth it when GSM phones are a dime a dozen all over the place.

IF VEriaon had a phone with the features of the Nokia N95 I would consider them. But they don't and charge for Navigation and more for data and I cannot simply buy any phone I want and use it with the native GUI, instead being forced to use the VErizon GUI....

No the worse ATT service is not worth the best Verizon signal to me.
