With the third week of 2005 upon us, is there any word of phonescoop.com or Cingular releasing any info as to what UMTS-enabled phones are tenative to be released on Cingular late this year?

If anyone can throw some models out into discussion as to what we might see first released? The first UMTS phones for Cingular are supposted to be from Nokia, LG, and Motorola per a previously released statement from Cingular on their plans for the new network to be launched in many markets in the fourth quarter 2005.

Why are you so worried about UTMS? Most of Cingular network doesn't even support EDGE yet. Relax, the year just started. More info on UTMS will be released the end of the 1st quarter.

The wireless business is about staying on top of the latest technology and bringing the best services to customers. Verizon is already launching EV-DO phones in some markets.

The year has started, but of course Cingular is going to roll out this network, and we are much closer than you think to the introduction of UMTS phones.

Business is not about sitting and relaxing, letting competition take your customers from you. Ambition wins and always will, do you think Cingular would be #1 in the country if they didn't pursue the purchase of AT&T Wireless?

That's certainly easy when you simply purchase your biggest GSM rival. Lord knows Cingular wasn't acquiring customers the hard way...selling them service.

I guess I may have to reevaluate my formula for Cingular's success (as well as reevaluate my theory that Verizon might surpass Cingular's total subs by the end of this year). Good job, Cingular.

What are you talking about? Cingular's network is almost completely EDGE, and they have upgraded most of their roaming partners to edge as well.

No, look at the latest data map at Cingular.com. Not too much red (to designate EDGE) in the US. There are a lot of markets currently in conversion.

What roaming partners? T-Mobile? They plan on skipping EDGE, so no help from there. Try again.

EDGE coverage is not that bad, much more than EV-DO. As far as T-mobile, they are skipping WCDMA as a 3g path not necessarily EDGE. I do believe t-mobile has EDGE is a couple of markets, rumored anyway.

i checked, and cingular network is mostly edge, they do have to finish edge in texas and some parts of arkansas, but overall id say 90%. also, t-mobile is not cings only roaming partner, but checking a data map from cingular they show areas serviced by dobson and centennial having completed edge. so in YOUR own words "try again"

UMTS phones are already available in the current UMTS markets. More phones will come out as UMTS is expanded.

Well, I do not know where they are, but if you want to get a look at some of the phones, check out www.vodaphone.com. They have some really nice UMTS phones.
