Not liking v220 - v180 any better

Hello,

I let my husband talk me into the Motorola v220 when we migrated to cingular. So far I can not get calls in or out when I am in the house, get static everytime I try to make a call so bad that I can not hear the phone ring on the other end (regardless of signal strength), when on a call the signal cuts in and out, I have yet to get full bars anywhere in Sacramento, CA and had better coverage with my TDMA phone. I have had every person I know with Cingular test our house and they can get a signal with no problems. Since I am less than one week into the 30 return period I am wondering if the V180 is any better? I do not really care about the camera. That was the selling point for the husband not me. I just want to be able to use the ...

Yeah. the V180 isnt' as expensive and is a little better reception-wise.

The more features a phone has, the worse the reception tends to be, I've noticed.

I totally agree. Who needs a camera phone, especially when you have invested in a real digital camera (I have a Kodak EasyShare 4MP)

personally, I dont agree. the 551 and v3 both get great reception. both are motoroals with more features. the v180 is the same exact phone without a camera. it sounds like you might have a defective phone. I would take it back to the store you bought it at and exchange it for another v220. if others have good cingular service at your house the phone is not going to make a drastic difference unless it is defective. different phones will make a slight difference but not a major one

There are some known reception issues with all of the motorola flip phones. There is a software problem that will be corrected with new software from moto by the end of the first quarter of 05.

In our location we don't recommend either one. We've had more than just reception issues with them. Our problems have been related to screends just blacking out and repeated phone lock ups. Personally I say stay away from the V180 and V220.

You're within your 30 days? I'd take the Motorola back and get a Nokia... or even a Sony Ericsson.

Why is it that everybody wants a free phone, and then complains their reception isnt as good as their buddy the the $200 phone.
Ive never spent less than $150 on a wireless phone with several different carriers, and never once had a problem with reception.
Then everybody makes it sound like someone elses free phones are going to be so much better then our free phones... yet they are usually made by the same manufacturers... does this make sense to anyone?

Well Cinrep I am very happy for you that you can afford to pay over $150 for a phone. It must be nice. If price was not a problem I would buy top of the line as well but such is life. Point the information the phone was not free. Do I expect a phone to work? YES!!!!! Now I could just take it back to the store and throw it at the rep proclaiming it a piece of junk or I could post a question to people who may have useful information. Does that make sense to you? I thought that was one of the reasons these boards are here. Thanks so much for you input and have a lovely weekend.
