#1) Why doesn't cingular display the carrier you are roaming on like t-mobile? For instance with T-Mobile if I am roaming in AT&T (pre-meger) it would say AT&T, if I were on Cingular it would say Cingular, and of course when I was on T-Mobile it would say T-Mobile. My Cingular GSM phone only says "Cingular and Cingular Extend"

#2) The Sprint phone I have from work displays my name and cell phone number when I call land lines. My Cingular phone displays city, state and cell phone number. So I called Cingular today and asked them to update the records so my Cingular phone would display my name when calling land lines. CSR 1 said it couldn't be done, blah, blah, blah. I call back and CSR 2 says "Let me check my knowlegebase." He comes back a...

1. Cingular extended means you are using an ATT tower.
2. I've never known of cingular to do that. So you've got me...

Correction, Cingular extend means you're pulling from a partnered tower, which could be At&T or t-mobile.

On the aprox 6 phones I have had from Cingular over the last few years Cingular Extended means ANYONE besides Cingular. Could be AT&T, could be T-Mobile, could be a local/regional partner. All of my Cingular phones have had 2 modes "Cingular" and "Cingular Extend(ed)"

You will only be able to roam on a gsm network like T-Mobile or AT&T if you have a gsm CINGULAR phone. If you have an old TDMA phone you may be able to use VERIZON roaming, but not SPRINT as no one that I know of has a roaming agreement with them. Selfish bastards that they are!! 😈

Well, considering that Alltel uses CDMA technology and the Motorola V551 operates on GSM technology...

Ummm... *thinking* ... gee... ummmm... ... ...

NO! GSM and CDMA are not the same technology. The phone will NOT operate on Alltel... primary carrier, roaming or otherwise.

Actually, Alltel got some GSM property from the divested markets in OK and another place that Icam't remember so, in those areas you will be able to use GSM roaming (assuming that the roaming agreements will still be in effect).

Probly not they will probly convert all the gsm over to CDMA as soon as they can like we are doing with AT&T TMDA towers converting them all to GSM as quick as we can

And then Cingular is either partnered with everybody or pretty much owns the country, so that could be anybody.

answer to ? 2...yea we can change the way your caller id name is displayed on landlines...cingular has email market support and they will change it in cingular's system..even if it is changed in cingular's system it is up to the landline carrier to update their systems with the correction.

Cingular is doing away with the "Cingular Extend" tags. Once the conversion is done, your Cingular phone will always say "Cingular" even if you are using a roaming partners tower.
Question #2--welcome to Cingular, as many reps you talk to, youll get as many different answers 😁
