Just Got Back From the AT&T DATA Seminar.............
They went over feature opportunities in each respected market, and how to generate more income for the sales rep etc.
The funny thing was the mention of the economy and the situation people are in facing high gas prices.
They said that it doesn't really matter and that people will still put features on their device........???
Now come on, that is not really the case, and they didn't want to hear anything about the state of the economy.
Also,
Nokia, Sony, LG & the Rest had no new handsets except for the LG VU, which was a major let down.
While I was at the Sony Table talking to the rep about the K850 a crowd started to gather around and to check out the phone. The AT&T sales reps there were very shocked when they saw her K850i in action and dissapointed to know we were so close to carrying this phone.
It was Sad
Nothing new, same ole same ole it seemed to me.
She told me how Upset they were about the situation with the 850i.
She said, "Don't worry, we have an 8 mega pixel camera phone comming out anyway."
I said, "So, AT&T won't carry it, everyone is buying all the nice phones on ebay ulocked and using them."
At one point, the AT&T guys putting on the seminar came over to the table, because everyone basically stopped what they were doing to listen to me and her. They told her she wasn't allowed to show anybody the 850i because AT&T dropped it.
I said, What? people can still buy this phone from a Sony Style store or an unlocked version of it.
AT&T head honchos don't like me much, because of my stance on how GREAT their phone lineup cou...

But, It never will be, because of the American Mobile phone User and how they were raised to get free phones.
That and AT&T's continuing to only get qwerty phones labeled as High End Data Devices. What happened to phones like the 9200? Sure it was a piece compared to modern phones, but VZW has managed to make a pretty chunk of change off it's predecessor. AT&T makes odd choices in it's line up. For a company that had all the cool phones when I started, they sure are starting to faulter.
I would go so far as to say that 40% of customers sign up for AT&T because they have a cool phone they want, or can get online and use. Look at the Iphone's success. That alone should drive AT&T to ...

We, AT&T have SIM Cards...
& While it last, they must take advantage of it. Because in a few years, every company will be carrying SIM cards and then the chance will be lost.
While AT&T can, they need to desperatley capitolize on this opportunity.
But they won't, Because AT&T now owns the old cingular and they focus alot on the Wireline side of things.
Home Entertainmet, Home Internet and so on.
Not sure about everybody else, but my store has a huge focus on DSL and U-Verse Sales.
The Sony and Nokia Reps were out in the Hall with me, and they knew what I knew.
I told them, "The Mobile Phone market in the USA is changing rapidly to pre-pay and outright prices of phone sales."
They all said, yes it is and...

What does one have to do with the other? That would not effect your ability to have the $15 data plan on your N95. If we carried the K850i they would also be eligible for the $15 data plan.
It seems to me PDA/Smart phones are forced into a higher data plan from what I see on the upgrade site. The only difference seems to be qwerty.
I guess as long as I don't have qwerty I am "safe" on the $15 data plan.
Very often I have customers who have changed their equipment by just swapping the SIM yet online account manager shows the new handset.
You may get away with it for a short time but it can catch up with you.
They should only force the $30 plan if you go over a certain data usage.
Phones that fit what I was referring to would be the Iphone, or the Vu by LG soon to be released. However, both of these phones have a touch screen qwerty, which may be the loophole that allows them to stay on lower priced data plans. I would like to see standard phones with qwerty keypads for our text happy customers. Not everyone wants a WM6 phone. Not to mention, ...

I think that's the point. Cingular used to offer qwerty devices (LG 9200) without data plans. I know that features have become much more complex in the two years since this phone has come out, but the principle is the same. It was a qwerty phone that was classified as a phone, not a PDA. If the phone doesn't feature a PDA OS, why should they charge the higher end fee?
