I got coverage about 15 miles out to sea off the coast of Southern Washington. Pretty awesome. I was using a Blackberry 8310. I did complete a call and had EDGE service.

Isn't that great? I went on vacation in the San Juan islands last August and carried signal all the way into international waters and then was able to roam on Rogers.

I know. Me and the Lady went to Key West Last summer for a Week. We went on a cruise out almost to cuba, to the Dry Tortugas and I was able to Send Pix, Make Calls, and Blog on Myspace using My Sony 810i, which is non 3G.

Very Impressed, and use that story alot when selling.

That's kind of surprising, considering the distances involved.

When you say cruise, are you referring to an actual cruise ship? If so, they tend to have cellular antennae installed on the ship itself with satellite uplink. For a ship so equipped, customers would have good coverage even in the middle of the Pacific.

Downside is that (presumably because of the satellite uplink) is that the cruise lines charge through the nose for access (usually 2.49 per minute or...
