Although funny and sorta ironic, there is rumor SBC might buy ATT, what impact do you think this will have? (maybe save on the confusion on att/sprint MVNO)

Well, i don't believe it would happen, FCC would not permit it.Aside from those words, if it did somehow happen all it would do is put the company to where it was 20 years ago.If anyone remembers or even cares.ATT known as Ma Bell, was considered a monopoly of companies, Internet, Cable, Landline Long Distance, Wireless.
FCC broke them up into bunch of little seperate companies. Now if you look into the History of SBC,Bell South Mobility ATT Wireless, Cingular Wireless, ATT landline company, they are all for Ma Bell Properties, if you also look at the companies gobbled up be SBC ,and Bell south, you'll see they were all former Ma Bell Assests, so slowly they have been rebuilding the Ma Bell Company- just under different names.

ATT is only a shell of its former self. there out the residental local and long-line business, and they really have that valuable is their business customers. SBC as of right now i believe is actually larger than ATT. so federal approval is very possible

They wouldn't approve because SBC and Bell South are the mostly the assests that used to be Ma Bell. That won't let that company reform back into the Monopoly it was.

i highly doubt that they will be a monopoly, SBC would mainly be taking their assets, the ATT name is dead. Wireline service is dropping at a fast rate those companies need to consolidate because of a shrinking market.

Everyone talks of this monopoly ATT had and how the FCC will not allow it again, BS. I implore you to look at the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and it outlines clearly that ATT can re-form without breaking major monopoly laws anymore. ATT was completely broken up in the early 80's I do believe (this date I am unsure of), before wireless was a competitor. Please read up on the subject before you start you anti-monopoly posts. Case and point of monopolies look at Clear Channel, same thing different format, but no one goes after them.

If SBC were able to purchase ATT, it would definitely help to keep the MVNO problem of ATT reselling SprintPCS from clouding the telecom landscape. Quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if they then would reconstitute the ATT Wireless name and shed the cingular brand.
The ATT Brand is still a pretty powerful brand. I even noticed on the last Apprentice episode that Trump still uses an AT&T branded Merlin Legend MLX telephone (even though the phone systems have changed name twice to Lucent and then to Avaya). For Business people, the ATT name still carries a lot of weight. A good chunk of the internet traffic is routed through ATT switching systems. Their Data Network is touted highly. And if you haven't noticed, the only ATT Wirele...
