Another SIM Question

RFEng

Jan 27, 2005, 8:20 PM
I know that this subject has been beat to death but I didn't get a satifactory answer searching through the arch.

I have a MPx220 with a 32K sim card. My co-worker has a V551 with the 64K sim. My phone and his favor a Cingular tower that is approx 2 miles away. On our companies property is a tower that has a ATTWS and Nextel antennas. Our phones tend to stay around 2 bars except when we go into some of the more shielded parts of the building (I know that sounds crazy) where it will jump to 4-5 bars. This tells me that it is only switching to the ATTWS tower when the cingular is out of reach.

I thought the V551 with the 64K sim should aquire the closest tower regardless of the original owner.

Make sure that the network selection on the v551 is set to 850/1900. ANd it should... As silly as it sounds being as that the phone has the quad band, but sometimes things drop off when you are looking for all four bands.

If you have a Nation plan, don't worry about it.

why does it mater that the networtk selection is set to 850/1900? DOes that improve signal/rection or something? Kind of confused about that. WHy not jsut keep the band selection to "Automatic" instead of what you saying and switching it to "850/1900"
