Recall on Nokia 6340i?
Has anyone heard about a recall on the Nokia 6340i? A friend told me that Cingular had a recall on them but I haven't actually checked into it. I wonder if it's the problem I've had with the phone. Sometimes it will just randomly turn itself off while I'm on the phone and then turn itself on. I'm not the only one that has complained about that. I know several people that have had the same problem.

You might want to take your battery out and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser, that has solved the on and off problem for a number of people. Where did you hear about a recall of the 6340i? I haven't had a sniff of any recall and I see a lot of phone info on the web.

There is no recall. Cingular is simply trying to migrate users away from the GAIT service to straight up GSM.

Unfortunately my area doesn't have GSM yet so there is no way way I could upgrade to a GSM phone. Cingular told me they don't have my area scheduled for a GSM rollout until late Q4 of 2004. Besides, even when I do get a GSM phone there is going to be a lot of areas close to me that won't be covered by GSM by so I will probably keep my GAIT phone until the other carriers used on the Cingular nation plan switch out to GSM, otherwise I'm going to lose A LOT of coverage.
