Nokia or Motorola?????

Hey everyone I have a tech question I guess. I recently purchased a moto v551 here in Chicago and noticed the service was terrible dropped calls etc..... I then went to the cingular store and got a nokia 6230 and this phone is like the exact opposite full signal everywhere no drops!!!! is this the case with all moto's for cingular or is it just maybe here in Chicago? Someone was telling me nokia's are definitely better phones for signal purposes. I really like the looks of the moto's better but am weary of giving them another shot. Does anyone have any info on this matter????

I also have a V551 and live in Chicago, I also work for CINGULAR. Ihaven't had any dropped calls on it thus far, so you may have gotten a bad phone.

Out of curiosity how often were you powering your moto off or have you ever powered it off? Moto's will gte dropped calls if they are not powered off now and then.

I have a friend who's been having v400 issues all along. I also had a v400 and had it "turn off" on me lots of times while I was on the phone. I guess that would qualify is a "dropped call". I eventually got a Nokia 6620. This is by far the best phone I've ever owned. The signal strength is amazing, vs. my MOTv220 (which i previously owned as well). I would say nokia's have a better history with not having dropped calls than MOTO.

A phone turning off in mid call that requires you to physically press the power button to restore function is a power issue. It could be the battery, or it could be the phone. I do like Nokia, but I sold my mother a Motorola and we're still on speaking terms.

I had a Nokia that would always shot off on me. Till it died. Luckily it was still under warranty and I got it replaced.

I love Nokia... And I carry the 6230 and I love it!! 😁 Now my husband (as much as I love him) carries the motorola v551 πŸ‘Ώ and he drops on average, 3-5 calls a day, where as I drop nothing... It does have a lot to do with your phones... I know in the Philadlphia area (which is where I live) Nokia has built our GSM network, and I believe that is the same thing nationwide. No in most cases a Nokia phone is going to be more apt to receive the signal than a motorola. 😁 Hope that helps you a bit.

Nokia over motorola for sure. I work in tech and im not sure if motorola is just the hottest brand we have or they just suck. I was a motorola man forever and then i had to get a new phone and no motos were available. i grabbed a nokia and haven't had a moto since and that has been almost 10 years now. Nokia may not have 101 features that you will never use like motorola does but they do have a great product that's easy to use and easy to walk someone through. Call quality is better and a longer life of the phone in my experience.

I on the other hand don't like nokia. The headset/loopset/data connection is lousy (pops off) and I do get dropped calls so I switch back to motorola. Now I can't wait til the a630 comes out. I guess it really depends on the individual phone. But. . . all it takes it bad luck with one phone to switch to different brand. πŸ˜•

That sucks to hear that about moto because i love those phones 🀭 but its true. On the other hand i could not stand the outdated designs of the nokias, but judging from the phones set to come out it may be a new day. I love samsung's phones but they dont seem to focused on the GSM. They are a step behind with all the new technologies from moto, nokia, lg, and SE. They also need to step up with the BP compatable phone. Just my opinion.

There is a software issue with many of the clamshell motorolas. It can fixed temporarily by making sure you powercycle your phone at least every 3 days. There is a firmware update coming, but I don't know when. Even without the software issue, I chose the 6230 over the v551. It's a much better phone.

I sell plenty of Nokias and motorolas here. But Nokias are the best when it comes to reception. I sold a customer a v400 qand he could not use his phone in the factory where he worked. I told him since it was a factory I dont believe any carrier would work there. But he then stated that his co workers that had Nokia's worked inside. Same goes with a famous park over here. Everyone that lives near it can not pick up service but it was funny I gave a customer a cheap Nokia 5100 series and it worked fine. He went through a Motorola v60, motorola T720 before using the cheap nokia which worked. So I would say you did not get a bad phone or can I say it was....all moto's are bad. My wife has the v180 and she hates it. Im with alltel and my moto v7...

the nokia 5100 series operates on the same network as the v60, but the 720 and 400 were GSM phone and entirely on different networks. After 2007 those 5100's wont have poooo for signal.

actually, not all the 5100 series phones were TDMA. my fiancée used to have a 5190 on T-mobile GSM. but then, there were also v60 models for damn near every technology of network, so then depending on what you meant, you could be right.
