As far as testing goes, the 7 cities currently with a UMTS network will probably be it. HSDPA has already been tested successfully in Atlanta. I am not sure if they will test HSDPA in any other markets, but if they did I'm sure it would be in one of the 6 other already available cities. Soon Cingular will be rolling out the UMTS technology in several tens of cities at a time rather then launching single new test markets. When testing a new technology I would say 7 markets is a considerable enough amount to get fair results.

However, I would believe that Chicago will be one of the first cities to recieve the new technology considering its size and population. We can only wait and see.

The TDMA network is still in its entirety. A v...

Just swap the SIM. GAIT phones work on GSM plans as on 11152004. We're told not to worry about the ESN number anymore anyway. 😎

*sigh*

If you are on a GSM plan you will only pick up GSM towers. If you take the sim out of your v551 and put it in your 6340, it will act like a normal GSM phone, not a GAIT phone. The TDMA half of that phone just wouldn't function. So, sure, you can still buy a GAIT phone...but you can't get put on a GAIT plan, so it doesn't matter.

*Bigger sigh*

We have have a GAIT named plan. However, we still offer it. In order for it to work both th IMEI and ESN must be given to use the TMA and GSM services where available. With the GAIT phone on your plan, you can take the SIM and use it between the V551 and the GAIT phone on your account. GAIT phones are going to be billed under a GSM plan (henc...

I was under the impression you had to be put under a GAIT plan...which we weren't allowed to put people on anymore. If I take a normal 450RUMMUNW and just put a 6340i on it...IMEI, SIM, and ESN..it'll function like a GAIT phone, picking up GSM and TDMA?

No, you have any GAIT phone you want to, you have to a MultiBand plan in order to ultilize the benefits, so like with the ATTWS side, you could have say a siemens s-46 , a GAIT phone, and activate it on any plan, but unless you have a Multiband plan, the TDMA will register in the system as a "DEAD FACE" which means there is not tdma profile on the service.

So The Sony Ericson T-62U picks up Analog, TDMA and GSM, but unless you have a Multi ba...
