This is the deal: I like the old iPhone plan better than this new one. My wife has a upgradable line right now on ATT. I'm going to give her my phone on Sprint, and I can have her phone on ATT, under a family plan.

Now, if I buy an iPhone used, version 1 of course, do I have to sign any type of contract in order to use it? Will I get the old rate plan for the iPhone 1? How much is 1500 texts on the old plan?

I wanted to upgrade the line to the new iPhone, but 30 for data with no text included is a bit too much for me right now.

Thanks for the help.

When you go to activate it it will put you on a two year committment. You will also get the first iPhone rates, iPhone Data + 1500 runs $30/month.

It's considered an upgrade, they can't distinguish where you bought your iPhone.

but but but...it's a discontinued model. It's used! You're telling me that AT&T will make me do a two year commit on a used phone that I didn't purchase from them!?

And they CAN distinguish where it came from. Don't tell me they wouldn't or couldn't track the IMEI.

This is BS.

It's not a discontinued model. That's the iPhone activation process, you want it to work, you do it through iTunes where you have one option.

The only thing they could track is if it was previously registered on another AT&T account.

If you don't like it, unlock it.

Just download ziphone and run it. it will unlock and activate the phone and best of all ATT will not even know you are using it, so that means you do have to pay any extra and no new contract. 😉

who cares if u do a 2 year contract ..... u can't go anywhere else with the phone in the first place and 2nd it doesn't use the upgrade u have currently all it does it make the contract start at the 2 year point anyhow

if u want to upgrade to something else in 6 months then u can thats what i am saying

i could go to T-Mobile with the phone.

I hate contracts, because they're one sided. They're designed to protect the company, not help the customer.

If I get horrible CS reps all the time, AT&T isn't keeping their side of the contract. It's not fair.

With the original iphones it will show that you are signing a 2 year contract. however if you try to upgrade within that 2 year period it WILL STILL ALLOW YOU TO! Unlike other 2 yr contracts, so again it shows to years but its not deadlocked like other ones.

Um, it IS discontinued smart guy. You CAN'T buy the old iPhone BRAND NEW from Apple or AT&T, therefore DISCONTINUED.

actually you dont have to sign a contract. it will but it wont be valid. just call customer service. and if the rep says they cant get their supervisor. because it is a known issue. with itunes and thats why the 3g iphone can only be activated at a cor store, unless its a corporate paid phone. all you have to say is that i bought this iphone from a friend and i want to activate it. and then the rep looks at the notes and finds there are no orders and then cancels the contrat. no etf.

yea well I'm not saying all iphone users can call and get their contracts deleted. we can tell if they originally purchased the iphone from att or apple stores. its not a buy out of jail free card
