I am more than sure that was by design. This stuff does not pass muster on that high a level without intent.You can be sure Every pixel of every photo is analyzed and approved.
Its a subtle slap at Verizon. No worries about prospective Iphone customers leaving for Verizon when in fact quite the opposite is happening. In fact that photo could be view as an "invitation" to Verizon users who recognize the logo from their nasty bills!

I agree, there are times photos get over looked but I guarantee this was a dig at Verizon for not picking up the iphone, and yes verizon customers jumping ship to go to ATT for the iphone.
