How do they activate the Iphone

I got a krzr with a Sim card and i am upgrading to the Iphone. How do they activate it? I am assuming they don't use the Sim. Am I gonna have to DL my contacts to the PC and then to the Iphone? Does it come with a data cable to connect the Iphone to computer?

first they would transfer your contacts to the new SIM card then after activating it they would import the contacts from the SIM to the phone
