No online iPhone

What is the reasoning behing making people go to the stores for the iPhone? They sell them online to their pure business users, but it seems odd they would rather have people wait in lines, waste time calling their stores just to determine status versus ordering online and being done with it.

Any thoughts?

They have you come into stores because the phone needs to be activated in the store by them, even with regular phones business lines are activated completely differently so there are ways around stuff for them but with this iphone its just a matter of protecting their investment and making sure that the phone is getting activated onto their service and not giving it a chance to be unlocked like so many 1st gen ones did.. that is the reasoning behind doing the vast majority in stores

I still do not really get the business concept - if you buy online your account is upgraded and you are set up for a 2 yr agreement. So, even if you get the phone and unlock it, you are still paying for it or paying the ETF, correct? If someone tries to return it and it is unlocked, well, I am sure AT&T can refuse the return.

Either way they still make out it seems,

They dont make out because for each iphone sold at&t has to pay apple monthly for that and so if it is not on their network they are paying out for that phone but without the feature they are not getting anything in return

You say they have to be activated in the store, then why did AT&T send so many people home on the first day with non activated iphones and told them to activate them at home. 🙄

Because of the overflow however now with that fixed they are not longer doing that they have to be activated in store, and I know that was only certain states like here in Nevada they were all activated in store
