I haven't heard that AT&T is actually interested, but judging by what happened with the Dobson/AT&T merger, I would imagine AT&T would be first in line for divestitures from the Verizon/Alltel merger.

Of course AT&T was first in line of the Dobson AQUISITION. They purchased them, it was not a merger.

I have a hard time figuring how AT&T could pick up divestures from a CDMA carrier buyout. That would be a lot of money spent on tower conversion to GSM. Alltel does have some GSM towers.

It would offset some of the roaming agreements in the upper midwest.

Not only that, but it'd be a minor headache for them to convert the CDMA customers to GSM. Plus it would help keep the lead Verizon would get down if AT&T managed to scoop up some of those customers.

I don't think so.Once those Alltel customer lose their My Circle plans and 7PM nights and pay more for less. They will be more likely to suddenly want the iphone.

In most markets Alltel and Verizon are in together Alltel has MORE customers than Verizon. Not hard to understand why when you look at their plans.
I predict a lot of ALLtel customer will defect once their grandfathered contracts end.

Some will return since ATT does drop more calls and has less than great customer Service.

While I am sure AT&T would have interest in available spectrum these were simply offers to divest. The FCC and/or DOJ may require more and Verizon may take some off the table as a negotiating point. Once divestitures are made official I would bet my commission check AT&T will express interest.

The markets that are getting ready for divestiture are from the Unicel/RCC merger, they overlap with the proposed alltel merger and will have to be sorted out when the time comes as to weather they will sell off the newly acquired Unicel markets of the yet to be acquired Alltel markets.
These markets consist of western half of Kansas and the southern portion of MN.
