Just Curious, Are ALL AT&T Store Employees Inept?
I have been told by VARIOUS reputable sources here, on other forums, by 2 --count 'em-- 2 tech specialists for AT&T, and a rep in their regional Office of The President --that the reason for the EXTREMELY bad service I've been dealing with for quite some time now, is due to the roaming agreements w/T-Mobile being closed in my area (coastal OC, CA) (the AT&T people even went so far as to say that due to this, they are letting people out of their contracts penalty-free).
So someone please tell me why 2 different employees --including the asst. manager (obviously pronounced "assed", btw) at my local AT&T store not ONLY had no idea what I was talking about, but did the "regulation" thing of blaming it on my phone, ...

A 3G phone does impact both Voice and Data. The manager was somewhat right when it comes to only data though.... 3G does improve voice but it is mostly for data use. When it comes to your service and what you were told about the whole CA customers getting out of their contract is bull..... That has not gone though yet and even if it was that would have NOTHING to do with your service you are getting. Question, in your area do you have good coverage? You can look this up on att.com/wireless by going to our coverage viewer. If so ask other AT&T users if they are having the same issue or not. If they are not having any issues then it could be the phone. I know you said too that you have a gophone that does the same but I will be honest ...

The Home on Home initiative was just done last summer. They took away T-mobile roaming where AT&T service is available. This adversely impacted some customers and YOU CAN get out of your contract because of it.

Oh well, I am off contract with them, but now I know how to get my sister off contract because I'm sure she won't pay her bill.

UPDATE: I went into yet another AT&T store today to try out some actual 3G phones right there in the store to see for myself if there'd be a difference.
Not ONLY was there NO difference in call quality, but it was the VERY SAME crappy service I've already been experiencing with my own 2G.
I WAS hoping to get an iPhone, but if can't even talk to people on it what's the use?

That's ok. Just go to a different carrier. That's why there is a choice.

That is true, did the store it self have 3g coverage?

Blue as blue can be! (per their coverage map)
Believe me, I'm not at all pleased about this --I mean, I've been with these guys for over 10 years and my options for other providers are limited to say the least: either scant coverage or muffled sound quality devoid of consonants ("Elcome to Erivom Wireleff --we ever off working or you" -lmao!)
