OK....I purchased the 3G iphone on 7/12. After having it a week and a half the screen would blank out completley....it does it all the time and takes mashing the power button up to 30 plus minutes for it to cut on.
I took it to apple.....I have "liquid damage" to the bottom port. Now listen....a bout a week ago I put my phone in the cup holder of my car....didn't notice that there was condensation from a drink in there.....so it got into the speaker area....I cut the heater on to try it out...it was fine. Now apple won't do anything.....but I have no reason to lie on this post.....My phone had the mechanical screen issue before the cup holder thing happend. Now....I have 2 days w/ my 30 days to return the phone....If I do this at at&t...

To my understanding they do check the devices to make sure they are functional in case it is an end user error, to prevent you from exchanging or returning, just in case. And I believe if you send to apple you will be charged for it.
...
Right...but there is no noticible issues.....It was just condensation that got into the speaker area....must be a sensitive sticker....and it is in no way related to my blank screen issue. If I take it to the store and at&t gives me my money...what happens when apple gets the phone and finds the water damge...can they makie at&t bill me??
...
and don't they just defect the returend phones anyway....and use them for future refurbs?
...
That I'm not sure of... I know someone bought a stolen iPhone off Ebay and of course the buyer did not know and then found out they were charge for it and asked why. Well, it was because the iPhone was reported stolen so they got charged for it.
...
I work for AT&T, and if the phone has any physical or liquid damage within the first 30 days of purchase, it voids the buyer's remorse regardless of were you bought it.
sorry to say, but you gotta buy a new one.
...
also
att doesn't do any work on the iphone
you HAVE to go thru apple to get any kind of resolution
no XBM (exchange by mail)thru att on any apple product

Yea...but at&t doesn't open up the phone in the store............. how will they know. It powers on, does everything....the condensation was just in the speaker area. Visual inspection (which is all at&t does) will not raise a water damage alert on my phone
...
Well looks like you will just be charged than if you return the phone. No way to really get out of it to be honest. Apple will see the damage.

yep, gotta say, "imsosick1216" is right! It sucks but, we all gotta deal with bad news

You really need to think about the person you are about to screw. I don't know about a corporate store but where I work I would have to pay for this phone if I took it back. Even though there was no way for me to know it had liquid damage.
...
yea, well, customer should have taken better care of a $200 phone/paper weight

He already admitted the water indicator was changed. Any rep with a brain would see the change if they looked.
...
Exactly. In this situation he is stuck to buy a new one.
...
Visual inspection will reveal the water sticker to have changed color. The only thing you can do is ask Apple to repair the unit under your warranty and send them your issue/story. The sticker is there for a reason, this reason exactly. It either did or did not come in contact with the H20 molecule. AT&T has no obligation to help you if it did.
You need to be more careful with your phone and not set it in a cup holder.
...
Dude. OK, yeah they don't open the phone in store. Just wait till it get's to the apple store, or wherever they send the phone too. They will find out and have at&t charge your account. Stop making excuses.
