And about ATT automatically changing your rate plan, not exactly, but possibly it will be suspended. Also... if you plug it in to iTunes, and it registers or starts the activation process... the phone will go back to a locked state. We went through all the possibilities of this at work, with a demo and thats what happened.

In theory what youre saying or asking could be possible, but Apple is a pretty smart machine... and Im sure they though about all the ways people could try to get around paying more, so with that said...

Take caution, cause if you are billed at a PPU... and you use it alot... your bill could and probably will be ridiculous.

Just some advice from.

1) Not properly because the billing system will still reference GSM technology

2) Again not properly

3) Your bill may rate incorrectly and you could be charged PPU charges.

AT&T cannot change a price plan or features without your consent.

1) The phone part will work just fine, but the texting/data may or may not work.

I personally have seen a customer try this and they got away with it for a few days, then the service was suspended. Heres why: When the data amounts all of a sudden spike to a higher usage, a red flag will be thrown, and the account will be audited, and probably researched to find out what IMEI is being used, and when they find its a 3G iPhone being used on a 2G plan, they will suspend it. Same things happens when you tether a phone to a laptop using the $30 PDA personal plan.

And I forgot the other que...

1. No. Regular GSM will work but not 3G. 3G will not work as you have regular SIM card and not a UICC card (required for 3G service)
2. No because you have a SIM and not a UICC card so EDGE data is all

i would like to agree with u but as far as the uicc card .... ALL 1st gen iPhones had the blue att 3G sim card installed ..... so in a matter of speaking he would have 3G if the data plan allowed him to
