5 GB Hard Cap - new for ATT.

Here you go. Heh. Was wondering how long until this happened.

Effective Sunday, August 31st; AT&T will be introducing a 5GB ‘Hard Cap’, where usage above 5GB will incur a charge of $0.00048KB.

Also our DataConnect portfolio will reduce to three price point ranges that will include two basic DataConnect plans ($20 10MB and $40 50MB), the already existing $60 5GB plan (which will now charge an overage of $.00048KB) and two DataConnect Pooled versions ($23 10MB and $44 50MB).

These changes will affect any new or existing customers who are provisioned to these new SOCs, whether during a new activation or a rate plan change.

Its funny I find out about things sooner here on phonescoop and engadget then I do from corporate, even AFTER its already into effect.

The communication at this company surprises me...

Joe, you are misunderstanding the point of the thread. This change is to existing customers as well. It doesn't matter that you are grandfathered in a plan if the company decides that the plan or the plan details don't fit their profit plans. You should be careful or your unlimited data plan for your N95 could be moved to a PDA plan because ATT thinks that smartphones and PDA are the same. They don't even have to ask you because you are out of contract.

You are all misunderstanding the plan. This does NOT apply to standard data plans, whether they are PDA plans, BlackBerry plans, or Medianet plans. This is Data Connect, which impacts your plan ONLY if you also have tethering, or your wireless air card. Those are the only plans being impacted by the 5GB hard data cap.

I understand that perfectly as I read the email from my boss. What I was getting at is how AvgJoe doesn't think ATT can change the way they do business at any given time. I'm not going to dispute the fact that there is a 5GB hard cap but to let him know that it is not only for new customers but existing ones as well. Sorry if I didn't explain myself as well as I should have.

Then you have to understand that AvgJoe is either wrong or just missing the point 90% of time.

And I think everyone is missing the point that this applies ONLY to data plans for Air Cards and devices used as a tethered modem. If you are going over 5gigs a month in data, there should be a more efficient way for you to be connecting to the net.

They have been doing that for a while at VZ and just wait till you start seeing 20k and 30k bills! Believe me it can and will happen, just make sure all the agents tell the customers of the cap, A lot of dumbass VZ agents still tell them it's unlimited and they go home and play WoW and cha ching monster bill.
