Rebate offers on no commit price

Does anyone know for sure if a customer can receive a rebate back on a phone they purchase on the no commit price? I have always heard no but i had a customer come in today and through her on-line account manager since she was not eligible for upgrade it was offering her out right pricing but also the rebates. I called Young America and was told that yes as long as they were in a 2 year contract and took any required features they would get the rebate. But he did not sound so sure, has anyone had any success with this?

According to the terms and conditions of the curent rebate form on handsets you CANNOT get a rebate unless you sign a new agreement and add applicable features.

Now I give a rebate form to people no matter what their status is and tell them to send it in and some have received that rebate even though they were not supposed to get it. I just make sure they know not to expect it if gets rejected.

I have always told my customers that they get the rebate on outright eqiupment as long as they are a postpaid customer and/or have the required features to get said rebate. I have not had anyone come back and complain about not getting the rebates. As the OP said, he called and asked Young America, and I did the same thing and was told it was ok to do.

The terms and conditions on the rebate form say otherwise. While it may work the one time it doesn't will bite you in the ass. They are under no obligation whatsoever to provide the rebate to customers who do not sign a new agreement.

Second line of the rebate form, in pretty good sized font:

"LIMITED TIME OFFER with activation on a qualified plan."

Activation pre-existing postpaid. It does not hurt to give them a rebate form. Just make sure they understand the odds are against them.

Other Notes of Interest:

The fine print at the bottom also states these rebates only apply to new phones only (no used or refurbished phones), no insurance claims, not for use by Martians, must be used in 120 days from issue, cannot be used at ATMs or gas pumps, max of 5 per household, not valid for phones that are free at the point of sale.

Ok I made up the Martians part.

PS. That was supposed to read "Activation does not equal pre-existing post paid. Apparently the less than/greater than combo was a bad choice in this instance. 😁
