Help me understand Rollover
As far as roll-over is concerned... if people are consistantly going over their minutes, roll-over won't help because they don't have any minutes to roll-over! It forces them to switch to a higher price plan (more money for Cingular) but then, because they have more minutes, they (in theory) will have extra minutes to roll-over, but won't ever need them because they're on a higher price plan.
Granted, there are some people who are on a plan where they consistanly use within a few minutes of their allotted minutes which makes roll-over nice for those months where usage is a little over.
Now, I don't say this to ruffle any feathers. Honestly. I just don't get the idea of roll-over minutes. Do most people's monthly usage swing so drastica...

Minute usages varies over the course of a year. Minute usage always goes up in during Holidays, and drops when you're busy as heck. Since each month lasts for twelve months, you always have a full year of back up for those Holiday seasons when you just go nuts talking to everyone and "didn't think about my minute usage because I never go over." Nearly every bill I've seen has an increase in usage over November, December, and January. College students have even more surges of minute usage during the summer months. Other than that, minute usage is usually something constant. People have their phone habits which don't really change.

It seems then, that you would pay for a higher price plan throughout 9 months of the year to accumulate extra minutes you may use during 3 busy months?

Any person on any rate plan ever, is on a plan for more minutes than they use or else they would be getting overage charges. Even Sprints F&F bumps you up in 100 minute packages, so unless you've used your minutes to exactly what your package is something is thrown away. Those little remainders add up, so the person wouldn't need to be on a higher rate plan for those months that they talk more in. Fifty extra minutes here and there could save you $100 a few months down the road.

I'm on a 850 Family Plan and although my girlfriend and me usually use no more than 500 minutes a month, leaving us with so many extra minutes that we may not use, it's nice to know that they're there incase of emergency, holidays, and what not. 🙂
