iPhone to Samsung Rugby

Snuggles

Oct 8, 2008, 10:00 PM
Simple question if I got a Samsung Rugby can I pop my iPhone sim into the Rugby and be able to text and mms with the Rugby? Then swap back into the iPhone for my normal multimedia phone use. Reason being is I wanted to be able to use a rugged phone for work and gym/exercise

I'm doing it right now, I have both of them. The only problem is, the internet won't work on the rugby b/c its the iphone plan I guess. I've used tons of phones since being on att and never once notified att when I've switched phones.

So what your saying is that I can switch back and forth at will but certain features won't work on the Rugby or any non iphone I use?
What about text messaging and MMS?

I don't know how many more ways to say yes to the same question. YES...YES...YES...YES...YES...YES...You can switch back and forth and all features will work fine except internet on the rugby.

If you are on the iphone plan, all features will work fine on iphone and on the rugby they will all work fine except for the internet. Visual voicemail will start working again when you switch the sim from the rugby back to the iphone once you enter your password back in at the voicemail center.

The ironic part is, if your on the unlimited media net, the internet will work on the rugby and the iphone, but I'm sure att would catch you eventually. But might be worth a try..., and now I'm out, I'm done answering the same questions over and over a...

seriously dude.

iPhone internet plan attached to iPhones are for iPhones only. You'll get charge extra for internet use on the Rugby due to not having the non-iPhone internet plan. (I know, it's very stupid, but thats how it goes.)

I don't know why customer care would tell you it wouldn't work. Maybe they wanted to you add a line or sell you something else. Customer Care tends to be wrong A LOT, so I'm not surprised.

But you'll be alright. However, not using the iPhone ever unless you go like, camping, is weird to me. I bring the iPhone everywhere. If you break it, bring it into Apple and they'll swap you for the price you paid originally.

This is NOT true. You can't just break stuff then expect to have it replaced even steven.

Go ahead and try this everyone, and see what Apple will do for you.

Well, the Genius at the Apple store in SLC told me this very thing, so I don't know who to believe here.

I'm not going to break it, moron, but if I do it's nice to know I can replace it for $200 bucks. (I think this only applies under Apple Care 1 year warranty.)

I'm not a moron, but thanks.

It's because of bs statements like "just bring it into a store if you break it" that gives me headaches every day.

If it's replaced it probably manager discretion and there's no written rule about replacing one under apple care for $200. you break it, you pay not-so-subsidized $400 (assuming 8 gb)

It depends on what you "break".... if the screen is cracked they charge you a $195 repair fee (trust me, I've done it), but give you a new phone. If its something else, such as the phone is run over and in pieces, well then your SOL.

ah. I see. Thanks for the clarification. I watch my phone like a hawk, and have layers of protection on it, so hopefully I'll never know for sure what Apple would do for me.

I had nightmares that my dog chewed it up.

It absolutely will NOT work. MMS is disabled on the profile in the network switch profile. It cannot be reactivated unless you change IMEI numbers. Media net will function but you will be bombarded with txts soon saying you are on the wrong data plan. 🙂

One of the problems is that the iPhone data plan does not provision MMS features within the switch. Unless that get changed, which normally required a plan change in the biling system, I would not expect MMS to work properly or at all.
