Ok, so I need some advice. I recently purchased a yellow samsung rugby through att's website (full retail)...$229 after rebate. I've had the phone two weeks and the inside black part (that goes around the keypad and the screen) has a black coating of something and its peeling. Doesn't affect performance, but it looks like an eyesore. The bad part is I've already sent in my rebate. The lady at the returns department basically me told me to kiss off and that is physical damage and they can't return it. But this could in noway be my fault. Phone hasn't been dropped, dinged, left in car, NOTHING! Besides its the INSIDE part of the phone when its closed...So what would cause it to peel??? Am I just SOL?
...
See the sad part is you are already SOL because you have ATT. If you were with VZW you would never have this problem. Your bad I am sure you already new this. ATT and there dumba-- rollover minutes. GO VERIZON We are #1 in cust service for a reason....
...
You see at Verizon, people NEVER EVER EVER have problems with their phones because all of VERIZON's phones are PERFECT. Why do you think Verizon is the ONLY carrier with ZERO returns? Because people at Verizon are really f*cking happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🙄
...
WOW... you people and your Verizon. Its a joke. there are unhappy people with both at&t and Verizon. I work for at&t and i will admit there are somethings we can't help. But i have seen verizon do the same thing to their cust. I have had tones of people over the years switch from verizon for their lack of cust ser. So don't go thinking Verizon is all high and mighty and with out fault.
As to the peeling of the phone, it has a 30 return policy. If you have had it less then 30 days take it to a COR store and see if they can exchange it for you.
...
Had you read the entire situation you'd see his 30 day in store warranty is void due to the mail in rebate being completed. And the post above you was sarcastic.
...
Submiting the rebate does not void the 30 in store exchange. As long as you have the rest of the phone box and the charger and manual you can still perform an exchange. The rebate has nothing to do with the enchange process.
...
Oh wait, actually, it does. Submitting the rebate requires cutting the bar code label from the box. I don't know where your from that you take phones back with half a box but my stores and AT&Ts policy is not to take it back if the rebate is done. They have to go through warranty because warranty doesn't care about the box.
...
Actually, on the Customer Service Summary that prints out with every activation or upgrade, there should be a section, 2nd page, lower right hand side, that states, "Returns/exchanges must be lik enew, with all original packaging, etc..." and then, "A restocking fee may be charged." The dealers that we work w/throughout the state have taken this to mean that the customer can be charged a restocking fee up to the price of the rebate they'll be receiving (or more if they choose), and take that phone back for return/exchange. We've done that and sent the phones back to AT&T Returns for RA processing and always received credit for the phones.
Suppose it could be up to each individual dealer/agent, but it's pretty much the method used amon...

i am an actuall att dealer and if you cut the box we will still let you exchange it for the same phone. you cant get a diffrent phone but u got an orange rugby cut the box all to hell and exchange it within 30 days for another orange rugby i just keep your new box. 🙂
...
Agreed... I work for an Authorized Dealer and regardless whether you have sent in the rebate or not, If it is within 30 days and it is a defect, we will exchange it for a new phone...

WOW then yall do things way wrong. AT&T doesn't care if the bar code is missing. You could also just take the new box of the exact phone that he is exchanging and use that box as the one you send back to AT&T. If he were to call the warranty department before 30 days they would say just take the phone into a COR location and they will give you a new one. You really need to look into what the policy is. I have been doing this for 6 years and I know its the right way.
...
Not a matter of doing it wrong, we're doing it the only way we CAN do it. 🙂 We've tried keeping their new box, but it makes OUR return process a helluva lot more complicated (and not on our end...we get heck from AT&T returns for mismatched IMEI's, even though it shouldn't be an issue). If a customer gets a phone from an agent, a COR location won't take it back..at least not any of the COR stores that we've dealt with since opening our Agent location in April. As for you doing it for 6 years, GLAD it works for you..wish that it were so easy for our dealer/agent locations here. Perhaps our RAE's need to fight for a us a little more, but that's not happening either, so we do what we can. It works for us. 🙂
And worked in a COR store b4 ...

Wow... well that sucks... I worked for COR and now work for Cellular World and we have no problems with chaning the box or just keeping the new box. Who do yall get your phones from?
...
hey crazy what state you work in? i work for cellular world as well.
...
I work in Texas. Where you at?
...
We get a majority of them from AT&T, but we're also using PCI (although I think that's coming to an end soon--we've been getting "new" phones that are coming w/pictures and text messages on them). Who do you use and how are you processing returns to the supplier with different IMEI's?
...
We use MidAmerica. Well if we have a returned phone and the phone in the box doesnt match the imei on the box then we just cross out the imei and list the imei from the actual phone on the return form.
...
When my store sells a phone, we tell the customer about our 30 day exchange/return policy in detail. I tell them if they bring a phone back, there is a $25 restock fee per missing/damaged item (not including the phone of course), that does include cutting the box. I stress to them a second time, DO NOT cut the box until you are certain you are happy with this phone.
Of course I will make an exception on a cut box if the phone comes back to be exchanged due to a manufacturer defect, because that is not the customer's fault and I cannot hold them responsible for it.
If I take back a phone with a cut box because the customer just decides they don't want the phone, I charge them $25 restock then RMA it for credit.
I have only had to d...

If you RMA the phone to MidAmerica, they do not charge you for a box missing it's label so if a customer decides they would like a different phone within the 30 days, why charge them a restocking fee? Is it a policy of Prime?
...
Cuz if you didn't, G-d help you!
...
Apparently, it went over their head.
...
LMAO i had verizon before ATT and had the exact same problem they are having. If the manufacturer has not called that a defect then warranty cant replace it. CONTACT the manufacturer directly... Samsung.
...
thats great that you are sending them off to a place where they can get laughed off the planet. like the manufacturer will give a sh(t
...
Wait 30 days from your date of purchase. Call 18008011101, it's warranty exchange. Explain you bought a phone and the coating is peeling.
...
How much is the rebate for phones purchased with no contract (full retail) via the website?
...
Ok, so I just sold my used phone (with photos of peeling) on ebay (auction ended at $29😎 and I paid $229 after rebate on www.att.com/wireless so I'll just order another one...thanks!
