GSM Phone Features

Unlike U.S. Cellular, Cingular has failed to offer speech recognition dialing and speaker phones on their mid and low priced phones. They also seem uninterested in adding these features in the future and I believe this to a key selling point to U.S. Cellular over Cingular Wireless. Cingular says these features couldn't be added to GSM technology, but I believe this to be untrue, Motorola and LG both said it is up to the carrier as to what features are incorporated into a new handset...any input would be appreciated.

Yes, you care correct cingular does offer voice dialing. But make sure that your phone doesn't already have voice dialing built in. I just say "Bob" and my phone dials automatically to his number, and no I'm not paying an additional cent for this feature because the phone is doing it for me, not the carrier.

He's talking about voice connect service, where you can store hundreds of names and numbers, not just a couple of them on the phone.

The last two GSM phones that I had, had voice dialing. It's a phone feature not a carrier. The GSM/Gait nokia 6340i which came FREE with plans at the time have voice dialing. And yes both phones actually dialed with my voice. 😕

Many of Cingular's phones have the Voice Dialing feature built into the phone.
Cingular also offers Voice Connect which is a service that allows Voice Dialing as well as many other features such as "Escape-a-date", Reminder calls, wake-up calls, etc.
They are 2 different things.

I have tried the voice connect to give it the benefit of the doubt and it was poor at voice recognition (25-35% completion rate), I would be as well off dialing the number myself. Voice recognition dialing as a phone based feature would solve this problem.
