The iPhone cuts into AT&T's profits.
This combined with the 64 billion debt leftover from all their mergers means less money to spend on expanding coverage.
Maybe I just might switch over to Verizon afterall.

Ten months and it will pay for itself. At $300 in upfront loss to Apple, and a $30 a month required package on top of voice we'll see the cash return in the long run.
True. But AT&T is still paying for all the merging and rebranding of the last 4 years.

says who? where do you get this from? I really hope you are not an AT&T employee, cuz you don't even know the name of the company you work for. it is not AT&T wireless, it is AT&T mobility.
Eh, get over yourself, sheesh.

you didn't answer my question. I really want to know where you get all this 'AT&T is still paying for the merger' thing.
you can look back at year over year earnings and add 41 billion for at&t wireless, 16 billion for at&t and 67 billion for bellsouth, I'd say they are still paying for mergers...
All companies must spend money to make money: long term investments, asset aquisition, whatever you call it.
If anyone is worried the initial investment in the iPhone is going to prevent AT&T from expanding and improving coverage, I would be inclined to believe they don't really have a grasp on how things work.

Good one. Like no one has posted that in the two and a half years I've used this sn. 😉
Wow..and I thought that this one would be exhausted by now. You're a decent bag of crap if I do say so myself. My hat's off to ya!
I agree its now call AT&T Mobility... Get it right... AT&T Wireless died because they didn't know how to budget or run a business for that matter... So if you want to stand behind that go right ahead... Your basically setting yourself up to fail... LAME!!!

Dude your the one with no brain... You don't think at&t has a thing called a budget??? They don't take all of their yearly profits and put every dime toward paying off the merger. They budget out for merger payoff as well as expanding the network, and well as technology enhancement. They are a multi billion dollar company, I'm sure there is someone in the company that is smarter then you buddy.

See crackberry's answer.
And I know it's called AT&T Mobility, but I prefer to just say wireless for the good old days, you got a problem with that?! 👿
