Jailbroke IPhone
I am looking into buying an unlocked jailbroken 2G IPhone. I love the IPhone but I have no need for the data package. I stopped by the AT&T store and was talking to the dude there and he was telling me that the IPhone will not work unless you pay for the data package. I don't believe this for a second but I would like a confirmation from someone that it will work without the data package. All I want is the phone and text messaging.

People do it, but primarily to use it on other networks. If you use an unlocked one on AT&T, you're on your own. If they don't catch you, don't be surprised if you get a $1000 bill for usage charges.

Visual voicemail wont work, and the internet wont work. However, you can disable internet access for your iphone, or just put on a media block. 2G's do not HAVE to have the data plan, like the new 3G's do contractually.

Yes they do have a data plan that is contractual if you activate it through itunes... But if it is jailbroke then you can just stick your sim in and use it. You can even get unlimited Internet for only $15 a month if you wanted. You would not get to use the visual voicemail like he said.
