I checked the glossary and found out that it will increase network capacity and increase data speeds 5 fold, but what data speeds? I know its for UMTS but is it increasing the theoretical 2Mbps speeds?

it is supposed to, and you will see results when the UMTS network is running everywhere

HSDPA boasts theoretical max speeds of 14.4 Mb/s... about 9 times faster than many cable connections!

Anytime I hear that phrase "theoretical maximum"...I divide by 5.

🙂

Even so, it should still be impressive speed.
Looking forward to the launch this quarter.

yea that is true..

ev-do is supposed to be at 1.5mb/s and verizon and sprint only advertises it at 400-600kb/s.

hsdpa will be fast but i dont think it will be at 14.4mb/s.

ev-do rev0 is right now about 400-600 and should get up to about 1mbps soon. then rev A will come out and should boost those speeds up to 3.5mbps...Then there will come out with NxEV-DO which is basicly 3 1xEV-DO rev A connections at once.

one thing about Hsdpa is it is one way only. It's only for download and leaves upload with UMTS which is about 300-500. EV-DO runs both ways up and down. UMTS must wait untill HSUPA which so far i haven't seen a time line for any company.

Not true. EV-DO release has the exact same upload technology and speed as 1xRTT. It's not until revision A that EV-DO will have fast upload speeds.
