Is there a list that at&t uses to determine which unlocked GSM phones are MediaNet and which are data plan? Perhaps a link that customers can be directed to?

Thanks in advance.

Essentially, in my understanding, any phone with a QWERTY keypad, an operating system from Blackberry, Treo, Windows, or Symbian, was considered a "smartphone" and would require a PDA package. Anything else can use Media Net. Foa a while ATT had a "smartphone" package for the N75 and before that the HTC 3125 and 2125 that ran $19.99. But that changed a year or so ago.

So then the Nokia E71 would be considered a PDA / Smartphone and thus require the $30.00 internet plan?

I don't know if this helps, but I use an unlocked N95-3, and I have $15/mo Unlimited MediaNet on my acct. I would never pay $30/mo for internet when it's the same as it is on my N95.

When it comes to unlocked phones there really isn't a way for them to tell what type you have. Yes they have the IMEI to go by but I have put unlocked HTC devices on my account and was able to just use the 15/mo Media Net and still get full Internet capabilities with no issues. Hell, I have even put a qwerty Nokia (symbian S60) onto my account and racked up about 10GB of bandwidth in one month and 6GB more the following month and they never said a dang thing with me having the Media Net. So I don't know what their method of madness is when making this decision.
