Can a phone ordered through the internet be returned to a local store, or do you have to return ship the phone?

Usually it must be shipped, especially if it was purchased from AT&T landline division. You need to check with your local corporate store to ask them.

A friend of mine purchased a Blackberry through the AT&T web site and decided he did not want it.
Took it back to the closest corporate store and they cheerfully refunded everything to him.
