Local Woman Receives Racially Hateful Text Messages

Sat Feb 19,12:03 PM ET
Local - KSAT ClickOnSA.com

A local woman said she received racially hateful text messages on her cell phone shortly after making a complaint to T-Mobile.

"I thought it was a joke," the woman said.

She wanted only to be identified as "Delia" because she said the wording of the message embarrassed her.

According to Delia, the message said, "you need to go back to Mexico you taco-bending whore."

Delia said the message was sent an hour after she filed a complaint with T-Mobile about making phone calls to her hometown...

"We are treating "Delia's" situation very seriously and have taken swift action, terminating the employee. T-Mobile offers its most sincere apologies."

Thats it!!! That is degrading and wrong and all they say is "im sorry" That poor woman.

We're talking about America here. Delia would have to file suit to receive anything more substancial than an apology.

Don't be surprised if that woman receives "compensation" for her unavoidable mental stress.

Yea but like inACW said she would actually have to file a lawsuit. I for one hope she does.

I'm not so sure how frivolous the lawsuit would be. I mean, it's hate mail.

It'd be different if you sued mcdonalds becuase their food made you fat after eating there 4 times a day for 5 years...Oh wait.

Well what in the frickin' world is Tmobile SUPPOSED to say/do to rectify the situation then???? They didn't JUST say "I'm sorry." They also fired the lowlife who's responsible! They didn't try to cover for him or excuse the action, or just give him a slap on the wrist. I'm saying this as a CINGULAR customer and employee. It is NOT, I repeat NOT Tmobile's fault that this happened. ANY DISGRUNTLED EMPLOYEE of ANY COMPANY can willfully choose to...

I agree. T-Mobile is not responsible. And they acted in a swift manner to solve the problem. If the cust is so tramatized that she needs to sue someone 🙄 she can sue the people who actually sent the message.

Well yea that would be who they would have to sue. Im not saying T-mobile is responsible im saying that more needs to happen to this person who did it. Not that it be T-mobile who necessarily does it. Idc what race you are, what country your from etc. Nobody deserves to be treated like they are beneath another. If it were me, id have her put in jail because it is a hate crime. But thats just me.

BTW Disciple, quit trippin.

White Male Canadian.

The only crime that could be considered is Harrasment. Hardly going to get jail time for that.

I agree that it is horrible what happened and no one should ever have that happen to them no matter what race, sex, etc.

But the tone of most posts here are that T-Mobile should of done more. Thats what I don't like.

problem is, it's against the law for a prospective employer to call a previous employer and get ANY info other that 'When did he/she start with you?' and 'When did they leave you?' They legally cannot ask any other questions of your previous employment.

What is T-Mobile supposed to do?!?! They FIRED the party responsible for the messages... and they apologized. Seems to me that T-Mobile fulfilled their responsibility for the situation.

For any compensation, the next step would be for "Delia" to sue the scumbag for messaging her like that. However, what law would she sue under? Could you tell me where it's against the law to be an a$$hole? No, I don't agree that Mr/Ms Scumbag was right in doing what he/she did. I'm just not sure it's illegal nor that it caused "Delia" significant emotional grief.

Think about how you would feel if it were you? That is degrading. And harassment would be a probable case for a law suit. No one is saying that TMobile needs to do anything other than release the name of the employee that did it.

I dont know about releasing the name to the public, just the woman. It could cause too many problems if the Reps name was released to the public. But I agree with you about the law suit.

Actually, I did get messages like that from some jerk who had dialed my number in error. He got snotty with me and I got snotty back, then he started text messaged me horrible messages for about a week until he got tired of it. Messages alot worse than what "Delia" received. I recognized that he was an a$$ and got over it. It pi$$ed me off royally, but you know what? Stuff happens.

Oh please! I've had customers say things ten times worse than that to me and I just keep on plugging, I can't even stay in after call to shake it off...

Jail time for rudeness? Sure, it might be nice but it's pretty unlikely, not to mention unconstitutional and highly subjective. One person's normal behavior is another person's intolerable rudeness...

And by all means, do let us encourage more frivolous litigation, we are so woefully deficient in that department in this country... 🙄
