Livid with a former AT&T Store

I have been searching high and low for a Siemens SX66. I found a store that was formerly AT&T Wireless, BUT is now totally marked up as a Cingular store, that would not sell me the phone whatsoever (contract renewal or not) because my telephone number was from another area (southern KY instead of TN).

They cannot renew my contract and give me discounts and rebate because I am from another state (does this sound like old Russia or what), that is tacky, but fine. So after I stew on it a little I decide I still want the thing so I go back to buy it full-price (just a $100 difference). The guy then says he cannot sell it to me no matter what. New subscriber with a TN number ONLY.

Does anyone else think th...

Actually it is because each region is limited to thier market. Att&t was great about not drawing market lines, but cingular is set up a little different. Each district can only set up and maintain accounts in thier region, it makes things hard but it's the way things are. As for the guy who wouldn't sell you the device, it may be a district policy not to sell data devices without a new activation or the store manager may have set the expectation that no device would be sold out without some sort of commitment, but this is not company policy. There is a no commitment price for a reason and if you raise a stink about it they will have to sell it to you. You could also try calling customer care and explain the situation you are in, they ma...

I had already been in that store three times and was seeing red. I am not one to really push things when I am not for certain I am right. But once I got home and reflected on it more, I wish I had stood there with my arms crossed demanding it be sold to me.

I have since found it on Amazon for the same price I was going to have to pay at Cingular. I may just buy it there.

Thanks for the information, though.

HAHAHAHA!!!!! I had the same situation arise in my store with a guy wanting to buy the RAZR who was from out of town and wanted the no commitment price.....the "no commitment" price is for customers who already have cingular...and...that is company policy...I stand behind the rep 100 % he was just doing his job....get the Sx66 when you get back home...or order it online...also..the reason it is getting harder to find..is because it is being discontinued as Siemens is stopping US productions of their mobile phones. So you are in essence getting into a device that will be gone more than liekly in about 60-90 days...so what are you going to do then when it craps up...and stops working.... 😛

I am a Cingular customer, just not in their region. I hope the next time I go to Best Buy and when they ask me for my zip code at check-out, they do not tell me that I have to purchase the item in my home zip code. STUPID!

They would hope at Best buy you don't live in that area, they just changed their policy, if you don't live there they can't activate it for you, but bestbuy policy, which is you buy a phone not activated in store they bill you an addtional $200.00, which gets charged after you walk out thestore, since you never activated it in store.

I was actually not talking about buy a phone from Best Buy, I was talking about buying anything from Best Buy, and them saying I could not buy it there because I do not live there. I see no difference in that and Cingular not letting me buy a phone at full value from them, just because I do not live in the area.

no but you see thats the whole point.Thats stores carry a limited stock of items, Cingular store chose not to sell to one their limited stock phones, as you are don't live in their region, and BestBuy could do the same, they just choose to add the extra fee in, but they could easily do the same thing.

They do not even have this phone out on display. You would have to ask them for it. If it such a coveted item, why not get the last two they have to sell out there? I am sorry, it is stupid.

Ok, let me say it this way, then i'm gonna drop out of this post. Each store has a phone their, each store gets limited amounts of them, its based on customers market expectations,so they order based on predicted sales volumes, like say in a rural area, there may not a high demand for high end phones, based on past sales, so they may send 20 units, and a store that may send most high end phones, based on past sales, will get say 120 units.and a lower end phone may get sent there 20 units.

The point is they put no on display cuz that location may have a limited amount of units, more like a ask if i can tell you, if we have lots, then there generally is a disp[lay model so everyone can buy one, if there's only a couple, then if i sold them ...

I would agree with this, if the phone had been on display. They did not even have the phone out in the open. Plus, it was a manager's decision.

i am a call center rep and ky and tn are same market first of all just different parts, no commitment means that dont need a contract so i dont see why they would argue wit you about paying all that money for a no commitment price and still need to activate a new acct in their area, that just doesnt seem right , oh well thats why i deal with call center and not stores 😎

From my experience the "Blue" stores don't offer non-commital prices because of their "lack of systems" They use the same systems as agents (POS.com) and they are unable to make changes, your best bet is to go to an "Orange" store and order it... They can order it for you, but if I am not mistaken I believe there is a deposit required.
