Cingy

Feb 27, 2005, 4:59 PM
I'm eligible for an upgrade in August, my question is, do I have to upgrade my rate plan too? Im on GSM FT 59.99 850 UNL MM & NW with additional line 9.99. are they going to make me change my plan and change my media works plan with unlimited data?

Nope... You can keep your plan as long as you chose to. You only lose it if you change it voluntarily 😁

Its true, when you upgrade, there are 3 things you will need to ask

1)Is the discount based on swiching to a "current" plan, some upgrade discount require it, so ask that first.

2)Is there a rebate and if there is , That requires you to be on the current plan, which yours is expired, so you'd get no rebate.

3)Make sure you don't want anything extra, such as more minutes, more free month of anything, cuz you will lose it(old plan) and once gone you can't get it back so only except the upgrade, but no rebates, no extra anything on the plan.

Exactly right... And yes, I work for Cingular.
You can take advantage of the no contract price whwnever you want, and getting the phone requires a contract extension if you want the promo price. You can keep your same plan unless, like mentioned by Mr. PIR, you want free this or unlim that. New promos + old plan = not compatible 😁

good info lexical. when you upgrade it requires a contract extention if you want a new phone at the discounted price. but you do not have to change your plan unless you want to . i actually wouldn't recommend it

Id advise to do the upgrade in a store. POS will ask if you want to keep the current plan or change it, keeping the current plan is picked automatically, so as long as they dont touch it, you will keep everything as is, except extend your contract.

just to clarify this: if the rebate SPECIFIES a particular current offering, then you'd have to change, BUT most of the "standard" equipment rebates ONLY require a new contract. this means regular phones, as some data devices require a PDA connect plan or something to that effect.
