Has anyone on the blue or orange side had to deal with blue customers trying to upgrade with AT&T phones? Does anyone else find it difficult to tell customers that they are SOL when it comes to upgrading without switching to the orange side?

Just tell them the truth i do, that when the company was bought out, that they stopped production of all att phones. As they want everybody down the road to be on the orange side.

I also tell them that selling phones was and is a courtesy, and since att went out of business that courtesy died too! They will moan, but not much else you can do!!

Well... I wouldn't know... I am a Cingular (Blue) rep but I only deal with Business customers... I cannot fathom having to service the general public. How atrocious 😕 But seriously, I know business customers, sponsored or coporate-liable, can upgrade within blue. Consumer Care reps I know say it isn't that hard unless the customer has a blue plan that orange cannot match at all.

I look at it this way. I get PAID to sell them on Cingulars service. If I can't do that, then I don't need to be doing this job.

I know what you mean. When I hired on, the job was customer care. There was nothing in my job title about sales.
Now, I'm made to migrate folks to Orange.
You will notice that part of the Cingular care rep description is sales.
