Can someone give me the short and skinny on these two? What is the difference? I have a SX66 coming. I currently have one of the Media plans, but will not need it since there will not be a camera on the device. So I suppose I need a data plan of some sort. Will that include the Xpress e-mail? Is that the push e-mail I have heard of?
Thanks.

If you want internet on the sx66, you will have to purchase a data plan, media net is not compatible with the device. Data plans are more expensive, but offer more productivity, such as faster internet speed, and better e-mail support.

Can I get media net on the 6230? What is the difference between media net and media basic? And what plan do I need if I want to be able to access mobi-tv?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am a current VZW customer that is trying to come to Cingular, but I can't seem to get any reliable information. Thanks.
...
yes, you can get media net on the 6230. There is no difference between media net and media basic; media net is the actual name for the internet service on the cell, and media basic is a name for a "package". If you use mobitv, I would highly recommend getting unlimited media net, mobitv uses an enormous amount of data transmission, I wouldn't even use mobitv without having unlimited media net. Just post if you need any more info.

I am seeing an online special for the Siemens S65/S66 for $99.99. I am also considering the Nokia 6230. Which phone is the best value for the money? Thanks.
...
I would say the Nokia 6230!
...
If Media Net is not compatible on the device, then I guess the data plan will cover my text messages? Unlimited, I should hope.
...
The media works DOES cover the SX66, dont let them take you on the data plans. I called and switched mine over and all was good. I had all the texts, mms, unlimited net for 20 a month. Compared to the 40 dollars a month for just data. Me and many others did that on the SX66, thats why they require you get data plan when you buy it, so you think you cant switch to media works.
Only problem now is, cingular realized this, and changed there media works package to only 3mb of data, and lowered the txt, and made mms unlimted.
...
The SX66 is considered a PDA type device so for $39.99 a month you can get unlimited data usage. It is called a PDA Connect plan.
...
to be honest with you pda connect and data connect are no longer needed for pda's. it is stated somewhere in CSP and i have personally confirmed it to work. my only question is functionality with pop3 email and media-net i have yet to find a user who is capable of entering pop3 and smtp email info... if i am not mistaken as well, there is a specific outbound server i think it is a medianet server so it would require medianet logon for outbound emails.
but websurfing is allowed on pda devices such as sx66 and treo 650 with medianet unlimited for 24.99, try it with your customer next time you get the question.
...
They were doing that but then they had changed it again, maybe in my market only... I don't know the specifics of it but the last time I out it on there I got an email from my regional manager stating that it can not be done anymore, and that was only a week ago.
...
i am in west and as far as all the links in CSP are concered there is nothing specifying that you have to use one or the other. in fact both plans provision the same feature codes in telegence.
my only issue that i have yet to confirm is pop3 email access, but either way, the feature which is included with pda connect is no different than that of media net so i imaginge that there is no difference.
the last treo i set up with this feature and confirmed internet access was yesterday. i hope someone can shed some light on the subject, other than what i have found.
...
Private message me with your Cingular email and I will forward you the CSP document so you can see what I am talking about.

It is different for various ISP's..for example, I have charter internet service..and when I set my email up on my phone, for outgoing server I must use photo.mycingular.com and that is very unreliable when trying to connect.
I acquired a bellsouth email address and I only have to use their settings and not the photo.mycingular.com and it works brilliantly.
...
thats the outgoing server... i found it once and didnt write it down... thanks
...
Woooo hoooo I was helpful to someone!! *struts around with chest poked out*
🤣
...
do you remember the standard user and password that needs to be set up for photo.mycingular.com
...
If you are setting up pop3 email, then you would be incorporating the settings from your home ISP, therefore you would use that username and password..
...
i found it... of course use your own info for incoming mail server settings...
but if your personal outgoing server settings dont work due to cingular not wanting to relay your outgoing messages using your domain then set up outgoing email settings with this
outgoing server is> photo.mycingular.com
username is cingular (all in lower case)
password is photo (all in lower case)
do not use these settings if you are trying to use medianet email service as all you need is your medianet username and password to log in and email sent that way will be done from the medianet homepage and not the email function on the phone or PDA
...
Maybe that is why it was so unreliable when trying to connect..let me set up my charter on my phone again using those settings and test it..I will let you know in a few mins if it works.
...
There is no seperate settings (username and password) for incoming and outgoing server..so this is not going to work with pop3 email..
...
DOH!
but are you able to send email using the email function on your phone?... not the medianet webpage.
and are you on an employee plan or retail plan?
...
I am not an employee of Cingular, so I have a regular Joe Blow FT plan..can I send emails from my phone? Absolutely, using my bellsouth settings..I have sent one person on this forum countless emails from my phone..
😉
...
Yeah I bet you do 😛 but I was being a good boy, and not naming names 😉
...
I wrote the book on that lol
...
Uh oh..its nap time..it sucks to be me 🤣
...
The bottom line is, if you have an ISP and their exact settings work in your phone (like Bellsouth) then you are in like flynn...but if you have to use photo.mycingular.com as your outgoing server, GOOD LUCK, because as I said, it is very unreliable when it comes to connection..checking your incoming emails is no problem though..
...

It will work for WAP browsing, not the full web browsing.
...
Yes it will work for full web browsing, if you have an html browser, such as Opera or Netfront..
