Well are you a former AWS customer or a Cingular customer, either way I would recomend calling in and reprograming your phone, as to the roaming, both AWS and Cingular dont have off network roaming charges they have out of your home calling area roaming, which mean if you have FL as a coverage are it doesnt matter whose tower you are on but if you go to CA then you get roaming charges as you are out of HCA, basicly this mean the alpha tag (what you phone says) doesnt matter.

U.S. 41 is the same network. over the weekend there were some network upgrades. they are begging to merge the networks. the phones are set up to display the cingular alpha tag, but they changed the way some of the towers broadcast. most newer phones will not expierience this problem, but some older models will. basically what you are seeing is the technical name for either cingulars, or AT&Ts network. It is nothing to worry about. The only affect is cosmetic, and the only way to rectify it is to get a new phone.

The people in the call centers dont know about the problem, becuase its not happening in their area. I just happen to have a friend who is on the team that is performing the upgrades. apparently everything went smoother than hoped. this is just one small bi-product that wont affect the operation of the handset

Depends on the plan the Cingular cust is on.

If they are a Cingular Legancy cust their old plans may still have roaming.

If they are with the new Cingular plans then there is no roaming if they are on the North America or Nation plans. If they are on the Region plans they would get an extra per min charge (IE: roaming) if they leave their region area.

No roaming means no roaming CHARGES. You can still roam on another companies network, it just doesn't cost you anything but airtime. God man, don't have a stroke over it. 🙄

There is no roaming charges on the Cingular Nation plan however in some small areas you might roam off network but you wont be charged as long as your rate plan has no roaming, like the Cingular Nation
