you can call your cell phone and hit * when your message plays, or you can go into your voicemail settings to get the number that your phone dials to check voicemail. Going to need to remember your voicemail passcode for either though.

Yes, the pressing "*" option is the best way to access your voice mail from your home telephone. If you want the "backdoor" number you were talking about however, try 1-704-451-8989 (I don't know if there are different ones, but this is mine)
