Blackberry Bold or 8900??

OK, I have heard conflicting reports and I was wondering if any of you on here can help me. I am going to sign another 2 year contract and I am debating between the Bold and 8900. I am not going with a data plan so would 3g be of any advantage to me? I want to of course get the best signal I can get and I have heard rumors how at&t is switching frequencies to support 3g better and that the 3g phones will get a better signal indoors. Is any of this true?

Yes.
However you'll have to be patient with their network upgrades. So if your willing to put up with that I'd go with the BB Bold because having 3G data in a pinch is nice.

If you are not getting the data plan there is no reason to go with the bold. With the 8900 you get a more compact device and better camera with virtually the same OS for 100 bucks less. I just got the 8900 and it has been great so far although I couldn't imagine using it without the data plan. Until they are finished building out their 3g network it wouldn't be any advantage to you and infact from what some have said it might be a disadvantage since some Bolds have had handoff issues during calls.

Just to let you know I took your advise Sigma1570 along with what I have read and I ordered the 8900 today along with the data plan. I mainly got the data cause I will get a $100 rebate. Thanks for your responses.

Keep the data plan, it is worth it. I have the Curve 8310 and I constantly check email and browse the web. And! I have Docs to Go. I bought the full version and it is worth it. I do a lot of doc editing on my phone when I am on the go, which ROCKS!

OK, what bad timing. I bought the 8900 on Monday and Tuesday they lower the price. That stinks. Now the Bold is the same price as what I paid for the 8900 and the only way to get the sale price is to return the 8900 and buy it back again online? That seems really strange that a big company like at&t can't just credit my credit card $50. If I have to return it to get the money, I will and then I think I will buy the Bold instead. Can anyone shed some light on this situation? Thanks!

prices change. maybe you could buy from an indirect dealer who is more customer friendly than big bad at&t.

OK, yet another update. I was at my brothers house and he has a Bold. I held my 8900 next to his Bold and the Bold always had a stronger signal, most of the time, twice the signal as the 8900. That sealed the deal for me and the next day I traded in my 8900 for the Bold and so far it has been an awesome phone plus I got it for the new lowered price of $200 after rebate. Win, win for me!! 😁

Keep the data plan. RIM makes the BlackBerrys with the data plan in mind. It's an internet device, there's no point to it without data.
