Upgrade question

I currently have an AT&T Tilt, national family plan with data. My wife just has a Razr. My wifes phone has an upgrade available. Is it possible to upgrade her phone to an iphone and transfer the number to my phone? In other words I get the iphone and my original number. I know I can't just move the SIM like I've done in the past. I'm sure it would take some creative accounting but it seems to me it would make sense since it would lock us in for two more years and AT&T would still get my money.

Sure. You can use the upgraded iPhone for whomever you want. You would just complete the upgrade process on her line and once the phone is received by mail(if done online) then you would activate the phone using your number instead of hers. The agents at the store can also do this for you.
